PSA: Do not download those VPN apps that are on sale. They all use the same UI, they're all made by developers with generic VPN names, and they all have the same issues

I second PIA being excellent. They have great customer service and I’ve only once had connection problems caused by their side of things, and it was fixed within about an hour.

Great advice, u/I_GIVE_ICE_CREAMPIES! c:

I’ve tried PiA but I just like the UI and ease of use of Nord better.

I mean…PIA is literally just a sign-in screen and then you pick a city/region. How much simpler can you get from that? That’s the bare essentials one could ask for in a VPN app.

I hate NordVPN for their blatantly false and manipulative advertising. I have no idea how they can get away with saying “nobody can see your browsing data!” When anyone with access to their systems can still theoretically see it.

Really? I switched from nord to pia as i thought the android app is better. It has tile support and does not have disconnection issues. Also i think Amazon blocks access to their site in Us.

I just bought NordVPN. 3 years for a pretty good price.

I already pay for Dashlane password manager and they just updated the service with a built-in VPN so I don’t need to worry

Honestly, VPNs are so overrated nowadays.

I can’t watch porn without VPNs

Yes I hate the ads I see even from the “good” ones talking about terms like “military grade encryption” and fearmongering literally showing a robber with a mask.

I run my own vpn but that’s to connect to servers inside my network securely and I will sometimes use it if I’m on open wifi.

So this is just a client, you still need a server to connect to. It is a good one but I personally prefer OpenVPN for Android when connecting to my server.

If your point is just to protect your traffic from being sniffed on open wifi points you could run an openvpn server on a computer at your home and connect to that and it’d be sufficient, if you want to protect from your isp sniffing or want to appear in a different region for some reason you need to use someone else’s service.

Most vpn services (the good ones too) use a modified version of openvpn to for the back end.

Some paid vpn services allow you to import the configuration in to any standard openvpn client but many require you to use their own app that only connects to their service.

OpenVPN I have actually used myself but on PC. It is very popular AND a legit program. It’s open source as well!

Well, it used to be before everyone jumps on this internet bandwagon

Reasonable price? hmm…

I don’t have a lot of time vested around VPN services/applications so I wouldn’t know anything about them. Although you can refer to r/VPN or That One Privacy Site

Because its like asking why there’s no opensource isp.

Let me give you a suggestion

Let me also be a jerk at the same time

I’m not sure why you need to be irate in a laid back discussion such as this, but I was trying to post a screenshot directly into the boost for Reddit app, and it said permission was denied… But for your sake, I will gladly edit in a screenshot I have already put in a different comment to this post.

Edit :Alternatively you could have taken 30 seconds yourself to look at the current apps on sale on the play store and see the apps I’m referring to.

Edit 2:This

Edit 3: word

This has nothing to do with Google

lmao do they really have “expensive” on the icon? xD What’s their line of reasoning for that?

most vpn apps are free. you are paying for the service that you buy from a website and they usually just give you download links for various platforms including mobile app. buy a vpn app “on sale” is already a red flag.
