Can you believe this mess? Texas has gone full authoritarian, blocking access to adult content like we’re living in China.

Just found out they’ve practically declared war on Pornhub for not policing viewers’ ages aggressively enough. As a result, Texans are now exiled from the site, thanks to this stupid age verification law…

As Pornhub, one of the largest adult entertainment websites, has completely shut down services in Texas, everyone’s jumping on the VPN bandwagon. It’s our last resort.

I saw NordVPN and their discounts being mentioned under pretty much every post by the users so I’m thinking of getting it too. It gets down to 3 bucks per month so not too bad I guess…

It should, I think they are banning based on an IP address, so a VPN will definitely help

I have had NordVPN for a while, works fine on PH. P2P servers do the job for me from Montana so I guess Texas will be the same.

This sub has special deals for VPNs pinned so codes “redditoffer” or “reddityearly” are something to try…

The sad thing is, they’re pretending it is about children and morals. It’s actually about money. There is one big company that is already set up in the first state to pass these porn bans. It’s connected, by blood and marriages, to a few Republican families.

While I am sure there are other companies that can step in as “verifier”, you know for a fact that they’ll go with the one that is owned by relatives of these public officials because that is the one that will not get prosecuted.

Meanwhile, I’m sure any disconnected and totally independent age verifier will be scrutinized to death and fined for any errors. The money the connected business makes will in part be donated right back to the very officials pushing these bans.

It will help unless Texas decides to start going after VPNs for facilitating. That won’t be very effective either, but it will be a PITA for users.

I use proton vpn, I’ve heard mullvad is good. I tend to be suspicious of services that spend a lot of money on advertising.
