Which one of these free VPN's would you recommend?

Here is a list of free VPNs I’ve found. Which one would you recommend for speed and reliability? Currently I’m using Psiphon3, but am trying to look for different options.

- Opera VPN

- ProtonVPN

- Betternet

- RiseUpVPN

- Windscribe

- X-VPN

- uVPN

Feel free to add/ recommend one that I didn’t list.

i dont think windscribe is actually free, that’s just a free trial. The best free ones monetize in another way, like by showing you ads all the time. The best one with ads is hotspot shield

Opera is not a VPN, it’s a proxy and only covers your browser. Riseup doesn’t allow torrenting I believe. Most of all the other ones only have free trials. Windscribe is the only one with a free option but only 10Gb a month with your email address.

Paid Mullvad, AirVPN and Windscribe are the only ones that protect your privacy and work really well with torrenting.

None of these. Free vpns are absolutely useless and untrustworthy

Mullvad gives you the best bang for your buck

There are some reputable ones, but they will have restrictions. If you are happy with 500MB a day or reduce choice of server etc. then you could look at these (please verify, this could have changed):

  • Proton - 3 countries, 1 device, medium speed
  • Tunnel Bear - 500MB a day
  • Windscribe - limit varies, 10 servers
  • VPN Unlimited (Lite) - limited to 1 server

But generally for a full decent service you will need to pay. Any truly free VPNs with no restrictions are to be avoided - it costs money to develop, support and run software and networks of servers - they will be getting their money back somehow.

There is plenty of history about this such as SuperVPN (100 million downloads and was seriously flawed) to Onavo (the free VPN Facebook gave away until people found out their data was being analysed). As they say there is no such thing as a free lunch.

hide.me, zoogvpn, softether vpn gate, speedify, keepsolid vpn lite,

There really are only 4 good vpns still out there. Mullvad expressvpn airvpn or ivpn. Mullvad is popular because it appeals to torrenters. Port forwarding. High speeds. Best to just search mullvad on all of reddit just to see what gets posted about them.

Why do so many people ask about free VPN’s :man_facepalming:t4:

Never heard of Mullvad. What makes them trustworthy?

Any info on expressvpn?

They don’t realize the difference between a hard digital product eg software and a paid digital service it’s OK to pirate a meal. But ffs still tip the waiter

Because vpn`s are kinda expensive if your country does not use USD or Euro`s. And even with payment most of them come with limitations. Like nord have 4 different plans! Not one! FOUR. Not “pay us monthly and use it” but “hey, we gonna be copying netflix in different field, cope with it”

You have probably have not heard of them because they are one of the very few VPNs that do not have an affiliate scheme so publishers don’t push them or rank them very high (if they even mention them). This is one factor that helps them win the trust argument, along with their reputation.

Contrast that with Nord who we have all heard of, are #1/#2 on most publishers websites, were the most recently hacked in 2018 (when it eventually got out in 2019 it was very poorly handled), promote aggressive affiliate marketing tactics - misleading popups (false offers with countdown clocks) and clickbait (some publishers advertise their VPN for “Free” - but you have pay for it), even now they are advertising it as free, which switches to free trial, which is not free - you have to pay for it (and then if you are not happy ask for your money back…) and whilst we are at it don’t include VAT on their UK £ prices (which by law they should), and no one seems to know who owns them… apart from that their actual VPN is not bad…

Absolutely wonderful. I use it. Don’t use Netflix. Always good speeds. Higher price point

tipping culture is the worst! u should tip the chef/cook, not the waiter.

Couldn’t agree more.

It seems like its an 14 eyes country tho? Isn’t that bad?

Thanks. I’m currently using their free trial and really liking it, so I’m researching on alternatives and info on safety before committing to it

Configure qBittorrent to block transfers on VPN disconnect - gHacks Tech News no matter the vpn you use, this is the most important thing thing to do. It’s 100% kill switch. You can even have your torrent client open and your vpn disconnected and closed, no data will transfer. Internet security and privacy is kind of a misleading term vpns use. Your common sense is the best way to stay secure and private. Keep google login stuff to one browser. Facebook to another. And normal interneting to a separate. Any questions just ask.

Thanks for the info. Really useful and something I’ll check next time I torrent.

I’m curious about keeping googe separated from Facebook, is it because of trackers and ads?
