What’s a good VPN for Mac?

So I’ve run into a bit of a problem. I’m an American visiting family in Sri Lanka and I can’t log into my college email because of the location requirements for logins. Is there a good vpn I can download so I can use it abroad and make sure I’m not missing anything important, my flight to the US lands 2 days before my semester starts.

Mullvad is my preferred VPN.

I use Nord VPN. Very happy with it.

I can also recommend NordVPN, been using it on various Mac’s (intel and Apple silicon) for about 5 years…

I’ve used ExpressVPN for the last 6 years or so. While it’s not the cheapest, it is reliable and consistently ranks among the top secure VPNs out there.

I’ve used PIA for years. Works well on my Mac and Unraid server.

Mullvad VPN, one of the few VPNs that actually care about privacy. Dont need an email or any personal info and can pay with cash via mail or XMR

Mozilla VPN has been great. And they are an organization that stands with privacy advocates all along. I trust them most.

I use cyberghost. Regularly running 2+ year promos and don’t report back anything about their users AFAIK.

Use it to torrent as well, no problems for over a year.

Can’t believe I nobody mentioned this. If all you need is to access your school’s network, most (all?) accredited schools offer their own VPN. Just google “school name + vpn” and you should find the instructions for it.

Your college probably has a VPN server of their own.

If you want some technical advice, I would recommend a WireGuard based technology. It’s one of the faster ones out there. I think proton VPN offers a WireGuard based one.

I have been using ExpressVPN on my MBA, Samsung S21 FE, and my Galaxy S8 tablet and like it a lot. I especially like the ‘keys’ feature, which securely stores all my passwords while making them easily accessible by me only.

I’ve been happy with Surf Shark.

You should use Nordvpn or Express VPN if you want the best and can pay. Otherwise I suggest using Proton VPN, it’s definitely the most reliable and the fastest free VPN that works on a lot of devices including my Mac

I used Proton for a year or so but it was an attention seeking PITA. I switched to Mulvad - low cost, pretty fast, requires no attention. Also a no-logs European company so good on privacy.

Check out Wirecutter’s take. They give detailed reason why you should and should not go with any particular VPN. Even if you don’t use their recommended ones.

I’ve used CyberGhost VPN. Haven’t had any issues so far and when it goes on sale it’s cheap.
