Website access only without VPN

Ive been signed up with and using a VPN for about 3 years, but in the past 6 months or so I have an increasing number of websites I cant access with my VPN activated. It doesn’t matter if the VPN is set to outside my country of residency, or inside. Id also like to access these websites when I travel, so it would be really great if I could fix this problem.

Is there something I can do to improve my access, as Its getting increasingly annoying that I cant use my laptop to access websites with my VPN switched on.

Might be worth listing a few of the websites you are having trouble with, users on here could try their VPN to see if it’s working for them. This might help you choose a better VPN provider.

Are you talking about streaming services? They are all actively trying to prevent VPN usage. You best bet is a dedicated IP or a VPS in another country.

That happens to me also every once in a while on regular websites.

Sometimes a message pops up saying that there were too many accesses from that IP. So they assume some kind of attack and block those IPs either temporarily or permanently.

When using a VPN many users have the same external IP so this might be the cause.

I guess that’s what also happened to you.

As experiment, try some other (maybe free) VPN…?

I met the same problem. Every time before they blocked me out due to VPN, they redirected me to accounts.youtube.com/accounts/SetSID or accounts.google.com/CheckCookies.

I need my Google account to log in, so I can’t skip that. I did clear data from browser, and now using private window in Firefox, still doesn’t work.

There are a lot of reasons that a site might block a VPN ( excessive bad users, hacking, scraping, spamming etc ). I can’t access the Dailymail from a VPN. I suspect this is due to bots scraping the site for data to feed AI LLM models. X/Twitter made changes to deal with Data scrappers. The promise of AI is quite high so cost will not be a factor. I suspect that MANY vpns will be used by data scrapers and therefore be blocked. A smart VPN host might look at trying to block bots so that their VPN IPs are still useful to ordinary users.
