Should I be using one? Why or why not? Along with that are there free options that do what i would
Need.

Google it…

As for free ones there is a reason they are free. Do you think the company buys servers/hires a staff/ pays their internet bill just for a free service? Nope very likely they are mining your data. Well worth paying for a trusted VPN

VPNs are always good for protecting your privacy.
In addition, there are of course other advantages, but that is probably the most important aspect.
Disadvantages would probably be that the speed can be reduced (this depends on the server and your own speed) and that you can never be 100% sure what happens to the data.

The advantages are on the other hand:

  • Privacy (in front of the Internet provider or people within the household who log Internet traffic)
  • Watch streaming content from other countries (servers are regularly blocked by the platforms)
  • Bypass censorship (if the Internet provider or the country blocks certain websites, you can still access them)
  • You are more protected in public Wi-Fi (the café or restaurant Wi-Fi is probably not the safest)
  • You can buy things in other currencies and other countries (for example, license keys for games Et cetera)
  • Many now offer ad blockers & malware protection, as well as pop-up protection

Apple itself has been offering the “iCloud Private Relay” function since iOS 15, a VPN included with the iCloud+ Subscription.
To activate, simply do the following:

[Settings] → [Your name] → [iCloud] → [iCloud Private Relay (Beta)]

Otherwise, there are authentic VPN providers who have made a name for themselves with the principle of not selling data. Spontaneously, I can think of the following:

  • ProtonVPN (Free & Paid Options)
  • Mullvad VPN (Only Paid)
  • Windscribe VPN (Free & Paid Options)

With the technical know-how, you could also rent a server yourself and build your own VPN server with WireGuard or similar. However, various advantages would be eliminated or would have to be configured yourself.

I also noticed that you should hardly trust any online portal when testing and evaluating VPN providers. These are mostly sponsored by 1st place.

I strongly recommend a VPN for privacy reasons. Surfshark is a good paid option.

Nordvpn is a good option

Privacy? Our stuff is already all over the internet maybe even before we born xD

Oh, that’s right. I’ll just change that, thank you very much!

Saying you don’t need privacy features because everything is already known or you’ve nothing to hide is same as rejecting freedom of speech because you’ve nothing to say

It also only works on Safari.

Damn thats right!

That’s not the Snowden quote and what you’ve said doesn’t make sense.

Hard to believe, but actually true. That’s weird. But this also includes a few other apps and all DNS traffic.

I didn’t say I quoted anyone, I simply said that based on my understanding. Anyways, my point remains that I would recommend a VPN for its use cases regardless of other factors. To each their own.

Well I am of the opinion that, while VPNs have their use, they aren’t a privacy panacea. You are shifting trust from your ISP to your VPN provider which may or may bot be a good idea depending on your threat model and on line activity.

There are also a number of things to consider when choosing a VPN provider and Surfshark wouldn’t be on my personal shortlist

He wouldn’t tell because he wants his privacy
