Hello! For the past few days Surfshark has been disconnecting randomly. I notice because I have killswitch enabled so I lose connection to the internet whenever it happens. Quitting the app and restarting it seems to help, at least for a while until it disconnects again. Any idea what could be causing the issue? Thanks!
Update: uninstalling with Revo uninstaller as @Glades100 seems to have solved the issue… For now at least.
Hey there, thanks for the post. As another member pointed out, this could be happening due to network issues or your router, as well as interfering software, but that’s not necessarily the case. A simple step like changing the protocol could help here. You can do that in Settings → VPN settings in our app.
If this does not help, then we’d need more information for more in-depth troubleshooting. For that, reach out via [email protected] or the live chats on our site.
Try duck duck browser for a bit more security
Of you’re on android changing it from wiregaurd to ikev2 worked for me. Haven’t had a single issue of disconnecting without my consent since
Can’t say for sure of course (based on the limited info), but many times drops are caused by network instability. Many things can contribute to that (WiFi modem issues, ISP, signal congestion, etc.). Try rebooting your router/modem and/or try another VPN protocol (for test). Make sure AV/Firewall software isn’t interfering.
Hey thanks for the reply. Changing the protocol is not an option since the one I currently use is the only one that doesn’t leak my DNS.
I don’t have any network issues once I turn off the VPN but I’ll investigate further.
Hi, thanks for your reply! I don’t experience any network issues once the VPN is turned off and sadly changing the protocol is not an option since the one I’m using is the only one that doesn’t leak my DNS, but I’ll give the other suggestions a try. Thanks!
Btw, what OS/environment are you using? For possible DNS leaks I suggest to disable IPv6 on your router or PC network protocols (when possible and applicable of course) and/or look into more secure browsers. If you are on a Windows PC, it can’t hurt to re-install SS and to use a free uninstaller like REVO to remove all registry traces. Best of luck and feel free to update if it solved the issue.
Hi! Quick update just to say that reinstalling it after uninstalling it using the portable version of Revo seems to have solved the issue! Thanks for your advice
Thanks for the advice! I’m using Windows 10 and only use Firefox to browse. I’ve tried re-installing SS before but never after removing it with an uninstaller, I’ll give that a try too and see if it helps!
Great news, thanks for the update!
i also had the same issue and a reinstall fixed it. (i didn’t use revo though).
