To work with a client I need cisco anyconnect. When go to their website it’s requiring me to login before downloading? What? Why do I need to login for the VPN client? How can I use it then?
EDIT: Creating an account does NOT fix the problem. It requires a contract? Open VPN is easy, I get openVPN, import what the client provides. DONE. Why is Cisco being this stupid for the VPN Client anyconnect? I don’t understand the padded resistance.
EDIT: Was 18 hrs awake ytd. Today I decided to go to https://vpnlink and login and just do the clonky steps step by step. it installed in one go. what the hell
Go to the https site of the client’s VPN. In example https://vpn.company.com and you should be able to download after entering your credentials the client gave you.
Just go to the client’s Anyconnect portal with a web browser, you can download it there. Or if they have that turned off, perhaps try asking them for it?
If they have their ASA/FTD setup correctly, you can navigate to their appliance, authentic with the client provided credentials, and download the software right from their appliance.
Https:// OR https:// (if they publish this to a public DNS record)
Without a previously-installed client, remote users enter the IP address in their browser of an interface configured to accept SSL or IPsec/IKEv2 VPN connections. Unless the ASA is configured to redirect http:// requests to https://, users must enter the URL in the form https://.
After entering the URL, the browser connects to that interface and displays the login screen. If the user satisfies the login and authentication, and the ASA identifies the user as requiring the client, it downloads the client that matches the operating system of the remote computer. After downloading, the client installs and configures itself, establishes a secure SSL or IPsec/IKEv2 connection and either remains or uninstalls itself (depending on the configuration) when the connection terminates.
The person you’re working with should be able to provide you with that URL, for you to then log in with the VPN credentials they’ve given you, then you can download and install the AnyConnect client. Or they can simply send you the relevant installer file for your OS. Again, they’ll be able to access that for you. Cisco does not publicly provide the installers.
This is not a Cisco problem. Your client set you up for failure. They should have provided you with the AC client for the work needed. It’s a licensed enterprise product with different versions and licensing models depending on the features needed.
This is like getting hired by a client to work inside their building but them not giving you a badge to unlock the door and getting then mad at the lock manufacturer.
Because they want to make money by requiring customers to have a valid Smartnet contract so they can download updates. If not then customers would buy the firewall and von licenses once and get updates for free.
It is a nuisance they used to not publish some of their webex/Jabber clients for download either- they do now for the communication tools.
Cisco requires a contract to download anyconnect but the company hosting your VPN should also host the client for download which will assure you get a version that works with their setup.
They should provide you instructions to connect / download
Stupid says stupid Is… Come on seriously it is not hard. If you don’t have a support contract then just type in Cisco anyconnect client ftp in a browser and look down the list to find an establishment that has it readily available such as an education establishment. If something doesn’t behave like your old product it isn’t automatically stupid. Its like saying your new Girlfriend/Boyfriend/Theyfriend isn’t like my old one so they are stupid.
I completely agree. Cisco is stupid. In 2022 there is no reason I should have to create an account to download a simple VPN client. Anyone below saying otherwise apparently doesn’t understand what “user friendly” means. Yes, I understand versioning. I’m a big boy… I can follow links to the correct version a lot faster than having to create a ridiculous account.
You have to login with your client-provided credentials (for their network, not cisco) to the client’s firewall (their vpn.whatever site mentioned in all the other posts). Then it will download and install the anyconnect client - specific to their installation and your operating system, and more importantly, import the config - specific to their installation.
This is an enterprise VPN system requiring you to authenticate with the enterprise before it provides you the connector.
Talk to your client. Your questions are specific to their configuration.
I understand the complaint, but I don’t understand why people are defending Cisco’s decision not to provide a client app for downloading and connecting to the VPN.
I’ve been trying to troubleshoot this issue for a while… I ended up downloading an older version of the client and had it installed… keeping this freaking file forever now.
I work at a bank who uses Cisco anyconnect. Complete garbage, keeps on timing out when you try to connect to the VPN. I absolutely hate it, and maybe I’ll quit my job over it. I don’t know how such stupid tech can be created. ugh
