i’ve been using NordVPN for the past 3 years. Can’t complain about it, never really had any problems. However there were a few “hiccups” that let me think about wether i renew it or not. One of the major things were that NordVPN at some point refused to give proper customer support to people who refuse to update their payment methods to credit card or so. If not refused, they made it significantly worse.
Use case is primarely watching shows because i refuse to support Streaming Services, as pretty much all of them are abusing copyright (= monopoly) in a very consumer unfriendly way. I especially don’t wanna support Disney; they are the Nestlé of the entertainment industry.
Otherwise maybe getting audio plugins especially since a worrying amount of companies seem to LOVE to engage in anti-consumer copyright protection that makes using the plugins you paid for a pain to work with. Especially iLok. Think of the whole situation like those “pirating DVDs is illegal” screens paying customers had to endure, effectively punishing people who already payed… Yea.
So now i’m looking for good alternative. It (obviously) HAS TO be outside the 14-Eyes regions. Also it should be as secure as possible, not collecting and reselling user data etc (Nord was hacked at some point, i belive).
NordVPN + ProtonVPN are in the same bucket, ExpressVPN + PIA and few others were bought by a shady company. Whether or not a “not a 14 eyes member” limitation is warranted is debatable, you are not a target for intelligence services.
The only VPN I recommend at the moment is mullvad, im sure there are others, but with port forwarding, good speeds, and good privacy. it’s the best I know of.
Maybe wevpn . They are outside the 14 eyes last I heard and support streaming and have port forwarding for torrents. If steaming isn’t a concern mullvad is great for torrents from what I have heard . I personally use Surfshark and don’t mind it but I think I will be switching to mullvad , TorGuard or wevpn sometime soon .I would just try all of those for a month and see what you like best
Surfshark doesn’t have port forwarding and isn’t friendly for torrents. I had them for three days and I was lucky to get decent speeds for torrents. PIA, Windscribe, and even ProtonVPN had better speeds.
I don’t use PIA anymore. I am using windscribe, but I may switch to mullvad next month.
I’ve never tried Mullvad, but from what I’ve read up on it, it’s one of the best. However, I have read that Mullvad doesn’t play nicely with streaming networks. Most VPNs don’t. That’s an area where TorGuard really shines. With TorGuard (streaming bundle) you can have a static/dedicated IP address assigned to a server location of your choice. You then add it to your profile and when you want to use a streaming network, you connect to it. Or just always use that dedicated IP when your connected. It comes on handy with some other sites as well, that aren’t VPN friendly.
That’s not new news though. The community was concerned at first, but since then, PIA has only gotten better. And nothing concerning has popped up. It’s still top of a lot of peoples list.
I had them for three days, and I asked for my money back. After seeing five mbp/s for download speed, I wasn’t dealing with that. Protonvpn was 15mbps since it didn’t have port forwarding, but it was better than surf shark.
