Reading Nordvpn reviews on Reddit

I’m looking to get myself a vpn. I’ll use it mostly for streaming and gaming. Naturally, I scrolled through Nordvpn reviews, because most of the community has had real experiences and usually say what they mean without a filter.

From what I gathered, Nordvpn could be a suitable option for streaming. Seems like a lot of redditors find it pretty fast, which is cool because buffering is the worst. It also sounds like it’s not too complicated to use, which is great for someone like me who isn’t super techy.

I read in some Nordvpn reviews that it has a bunch of servers and some extra stuff like apps for tv. Although it’s mentioned as pricier compared to some alternatives, the consensus here seems to be that you’re getting your money’s worth for the service and features provided.

I also saw here that there’s a discount code ‘forum’ that can save you some cash, making it not as expensive in the end. So if the price was holding you back, it might be worth reconsidering.

Before I make a decision, I’d love to hear more from this community. Do you think Nordvpn lives up to its reputation according to your experience? Is it worth the investment?

If you are interested, I’ve also read these 1, 2, 3 sources.

Appreciate any advice or personal experiences you can share! Thanks.

I don’t understand all the fuss. People are praising VPN providers that have shills around Reddit but when a brand like NordVPN has mixed reviews on the site - everyone makes an impression that it’s bad??

I’ve been using NordVPN for a while now and majority of the concerns that are stated online are rather individual. The service works fine, protects how it’s supposed to protect, speeds are as promised (you have to know that a VPN will always slow you down, it’s just a matter of a provider how MUCH will your speeds will drop)…

the reviews are terrible

I do agree that it offers a good quality and price ratio, have had it for some time now

I’ve been using NordVPN for streaming and gaming, and it’s been great with fast speeds and minimal buffering. The interface is user-friendly, and the wide server selection is a plus for accessing content worldwide. Yeah, it’s a bit pricier, but you’re getting solid value with all the extras, including those TV apps. Totally worth the cash, IMO.

I use Nord, works great for me. The setup is easy, it’s fast enough for my preferences.

Nord VPN is garbage. I just dropped them and disputed their charges on my card. They bill as Moonflash which should be a red flag in itself.

The problem is when their VPN is active you can’t connect to anything. No Google, email, pandora, apple. So yeah you are safe because you can’t connect to anything. When I turn it off my device connects to the intended site immediately.

I contacted Nord VPN and asked for a refund. They said it was past 30 days so no refund of any of my money. I bought a 2yr subscription. They said I should have known by the 30 days. Well it worked fine at first then became worse and worse. I tried multiple servers throughout the country.

So if you want to throw your money away go with them. I disputed the charges and will get my money back only because my card and nothing to do with customer service from Nord VPN.

I use Nord for some while now and I especially like it when I want to watch something that is not available in my country

I also saw this resource: https://www.reddit.com/r/VPN/s/AP9pQdzAHG

Nord is there, so could add to the list too

NordVPN is rubbish and they heavily use bots to promote it with fake testimonials.

Same as Surfshark. Both are owned by the same company.

Nord was very good for many years, but it is now absolutely awful. I speak from many years experience with the service. It’s now barely functional, super glitchy, often blocks your internet access even when turned off (if installed on your computer), and there is no longer any actual support. Support in name only… they just waste your time. There has in fact been a dramatic change in the service overall for the worse. The trouble is that I have now tried two other VPNs - PIA and Express VPN - and they were both equally bad with way less servers. One positive about Nord, back when it did seem to work, was that it had numerous Canadian servers, for example. The other VPNs I tried actually had only 1 - 3 Cdn servers, so this was a surprise (after purchase).I would like to see VPN comparisons on Reddit and elsewhere shed some light on actual server availability with each provider in addition to how legit their support is or isn’t.The bottom line is that I’m still searching for a decent, functional VPN service, and I’m not sure this exists. Let me know if you found one.

The good is pretty stable and fairly fast, the bad is no port forward which is necessary for torrenting. Another bad is they play fast and loose with your credit card. Do not allow automatic renewal.

Why the hell people pay money for a VPN.

Stay far away. I’m fairly sure I disabled auto-renew back in the day (4 years ago), but if not they hid the auto-renew very well. Around the time my 3-year subscription was ending, I got notices it was ending, so I figured I’d just stop using it. Wrong.

They billed me anyway, and when I discovered it later, they cited their TOS, claiming I agreed to it and they could not give me a refund after 30 days.

I don’t remember ever signing up for auto-renew, and my own policy is to ALWAYS disable auto-renew on service (excluding utilities). It’s possible I had disabled it, because I’ve seen others claim they disabled it only to discover soon after it was re-enabled.

Either way, they renewed me at $99/year, when you can manually renew at $99 for 2 years. To me that PROVES their intent to engage in scummy business practices. Who in their right mind would auto-renew at $99/year, when they can take 1-minute and renew at $99/2-years?

I also had a back and forth with their customer service and 2 reps, and they both denied my refund, were argumentative, kept citing their polices on refunds, and repeatedly stating I agreed to things.

Don’t take my word for it, here is page-after-page-after-page of stories that are practically identical. They hide their billing and renewals. If you have any problem, they make it near impossible to get a refund, even if you’re within that 30 day window.

people slam nordvpn but haters always hate the top dog

It’s the Norton antivirus of vpns. The app is glitchy and bombards you with offers to purchase additional services. There is no option to remove your credit card info after purchase without deleting your account. People have reported being charged after cancelling auto renew.

The price has increased a lot, but so have other services. When your re-up is coming up disable auto renew early and they will give you a great deal. 2022 I got 70 for total 2 years. In 2024 now I get 88 bux for 2 years VPN with Nordpass. Without 65 bux. Other password managers will cost more than the difference. It was also Nordvpn that caught my email on the dark web monitor.

What are those extra features?

Got NordVPN with Revolut Premium plan a few months ago, works fast :ok_hand:t2:

Nord works fine but the company is quite shady. The same goes for torguard.

Look into PIA and Mullvad, both great services.
