PureVPN is terrible. Stay away. Don't be an idiot like me and pay for 1 year

I got PureVPN in January for 1 year. It was on special and I needed a VPN for cloud streaming for games. I just used it to start a session then disconnect. Now I’m not using it much because I finally got a capable PC.

On to the gripes. I will talk on the Android, PC and Mac versions. I don’t use the iPhone version so I have nothing to say there.

For reference my internet at home (5G wireless) is 350Mbps download, 50Mbps upload and 25ms ping.
At work I have 75Mbps download, 35Mbps upload and a ping ping of 15ms.

General stuff first

  1. This VPN suffers from very dirty IPs. If you try to Google Search or try to buy a game on Epic Games or other sites with IP address filtering, you will get captchas. A lot of captchas. It’s really really annoying and wastes your time a lot.
The solution is to get a l dedicated IP but folks here orln Reddit advised against it because apparently their dedicated IPs are slow.

The Windows experience is the worst offender.

  1. For some reason, the Windows app regularly logs itself out and I have to login again. I’m not sure why it does this. The only other app that does this type of crap on my computers is Epic Games, their login sessions are quite short.

  2. The Windows app is very slow to open and connect when it does work. It’ll take anywhere between 3 and 5 minutes from clicking on the app icon to it finally connecting. I’ll be looking at loading screens like I’m trying to play a game with 4K assets or something.
My 2 Windows computers are both 9th gen and 12th gen Intel with 16GB of RAM so it’s not that they are slow.

  3. The Windows app UI is also not very responsive. After I wait like 4 minutes to finally get to the screen where I connect, I can click on the server icon and the app will not react or respond. After 5 or so clicks it then shows that it’s connected.

The Mac app does not have any of these issues. It’s a work issued M2 Max. So I’m not sure what the developers working on the Windows app are doing wrong.

The Android app doesn’t have too many issues, just minor bugs. For example I use the South African servers 80% of the time and only connect to Germany for P2P the rest of the time. But for some reason, the suggested server is always Germany. Should it not be the most used one?

Now I don’t use the VPN as much but there were also frequent disconnections for some reason. I would get disconnected maybe 3 or 4 times a day and sometimes I wouldn’t notice and continue with my web browsing.

So yeah, stay away. I will not be renewing in January. I will likely get something else after doing better research than I did when I got this.

I agree to 100%

Got stuck in a really pointless conversation with the support chat today… 60 minutes of chatting - no problem got solved - and I am even not sure that the support understood my issue (I can’t connect with my dedicated IP to the internet)… really ridiculous.

I chose PureVPN for a SINGLE reason: Having a dedicated IP address from a single country, so that my IP can be whitelisted to work on my client’s project. Now this doesn’t work, and I can’t work. No help in sight…

So: Stay away. Don’t be an idiot like me and pay for 1 year, too!

yes dont subscribe the long period they keep closing down the server you always use! I have 5 years subscription till now about 3 year, close down 2 country server which I always use. you know less one connection less burden, but customer paid the service you should fulfil the contract. not recommend purevpn I seldom use already this is what they want! just keep away from them, at first no problem speed good server more choice now lol…

My experience with them is like many others on here. I paid for a year or 5 I cannot remember which. They change too many things too often. It’s not like my router was smart enough to tell me , “hey bud something’s wrong with purevpn again so you’re telnet server is now inaccessible to the outside world” they’d turn off pptp, or the server would be down or they’d screw up billing ( back when I was month to month). So I’ve finally had enough of the nonsense and went with private internet and a localxpose plan that’s working pretty well.

This is disgraceful business practice from 2 vpn companies.

I did a google search on the morning of release of The descendants rise of Red as I wanted to find out what time the movie was dropping on the app and these VPN’s (obviously paid as placement) was the top google search result.

Their blogs are blatantly lying to consumers telling people that this movie isn’t available in Australia and that they need to sign up for their VPN and connect to USA servers in order to watch. It’s been advertised in the Disney app for months.

I wonder how many people have been fooled and wasted money by these rippoffs.

i agree, it is awful. i regret ever buying it.

PureVPN says BBC IS UNBIASED BIGGEST JOKE EVER.

Purevpn has a bait and switch policy.

Never use Purevpn. Their customer service is horrible. No one listens to your concerns.

I apologize for any inconvenience you’ve experienced with our services. To address your concerns thoroughly, could you please send us your registered email via direct message (DM)? Thank you.

IdentityCloaker? Reliable but expensive…

I have the 5 years subscription for torrents. It was working great with PPTP for a long time, it’s not working great with WireGuard on my router.

It’s a VPN, so of course IPs are shared and are dirty, and stop using the app, just use a supported protocol, you should be fine

Hello testing testing. Virus virus scam scam

this website gave my browser aids

yeah they seem a shady outfit. How in the heck would I ever trust them with my data.

Which service did you Go with

you can regret because when you pay, you pay on purevpn brand.
i am more innocent, got ported from ivacy vpn which were working excellent to here.

this one is really with too much dirty IPs, and extemely slow dedicated server.

this is not the case with other VPNs I have ever used. This VPN causes captchas literally on every site

Hello there, PureVPN is running a 120% Cashback (that’s right - you will get paid apparently to use it) and even as ridiculously enticing as this sounds I still obviously have my doubts. I am only interested in it for one purpose, and one purpose only - the one you mentioned - I want to run a standard wireguard connection from a .conf file (both on my phone and on my router)

And then, I see you said it’s not working great, to boot. Any chance you can elaborate a bit? Is it still a problem? I run OPNsense and connect to many other VPN’s with no issues (WindScribe, Proton, Mullvad)

Cheers and thanks for any recent info

I think maybe bots downvoted you, yeah the website is blocked by ublock origin and when I try to bypass it, it won’t let me. It’s sketchy af

Edit: yeah its definitely bots. No way I get 11 down votes near instantly in an ancient thread.
