Newbie looking for best VPN for torrenting

In about 20 years of torrenting without a VPN, it’s time to get one. I got the “letter” back in 2017 and again last year.

I’ve heard Proton is good… Dunno about Surfshark or Cyberghost at the moment.

Necessities: no logging policy, Port-forwarding support and ?? I can use help here.

Is WireGuard protocol necessary?

All I will need is a VPN for torrents only.

Pricing is important, I don’t want to pay more the $5 a month and I can commit to a year or 2 year deal. A refundable trial would be nice…

Lastly, is Paypal the best way to pay? No credit cards, right?

Any advice for me?

Thanks.

I am a fan of Private Internet Access. They do everything I need (and everything you mention) and then some. Some dis them because of who bought them, but that company is not the problem they were once seen to be. 3d parties used them as a platform for malware, so the company regrouped and went into a different thing - VPNs. No evidence they ever were behind any malware and they own some of the more prominent VPNs out there now.

I’ve never had a bit of problem with them in the last ~decade.

ProtonVPN is a good choice, supports torrenting, and comes with additional utilities as part of the VPN subscription

I think it will work out to approximately $5 per month should you pay for a year, but I am not sure

The exact protocol will depend more on your network environment and needs, it’s hard to say whether WireGuard will be necessary

PayPal is no better than credit cards for anonymity, the best way is cryptocurrency or anonymous mail in (supported by some VPN providers)

I recently switched from Express to Nord. Speeds are the best between those too from what I’ve read, heard, watched. I think a two year deal for Nord’s mid tier is $4.99

I’m pretty happy with AirVPN. The price is in your budget (esp when buying during various holiday sales). Port Forwarding was very simple.

Been wanting to try proton. Shame mullvad doesn’t do PF-ing anymore.

Mullvad. Its cheap and reliable

wondering if anyone here knows any good torrents for toonboom harmony premium for mac

Nord. Find a YouTuber that has a promo link and you can get it pretty cheap. I think I paid $85 for two years or something like that

Out of curiosity were you using PTs and if you were what PTs were you using?

What about Mozilla VPN? I bought them for a different purpose, and want to know if it’s good?

Just got a 2 year sub to them a couple of days ago after trying Proton (slow downloads) Nord ( ok but couldn’t use nordlynx protocol when using dedicated IP address ) Surfshark ( ok but bypasser was troublesome) Tried PIA and was surprised you could use wireguard on dedicated IP and P2P servers and unlike Proton it doesn’t change the port every time you reconnect . It also downloaded torrents (fast) that Nord and Surfshark had stalled. Overall happy with PIA and going to get refunds on the others.

Can you pay using gift cards, like Target? Torguard allowed it.

I’ve been using them for the past ~3 months and I’m really happy with it. The Black Friday sale was something like 25 bucks a year for the next 3 years. Download speeds are great and it’s very user friendly.

Proton is good, but has a few problems for Mac users caused by a badly written client.

proton doesnt allow p2p anymore… literally got a browser redirect pop-up from proton stating as much…i figured something was funky cuz i had like over 250 available seeders but only got speeds of like 10kbps and then all the seeds would suddenly disappear and slowly reappear only to again, disappear… after i got the notice from proton they killed all my network traffic as well… i had to reboot my pc and restart the vpn without bittorrent running at all to make it work again… and after this, the vpm straight up wouldnt connect at all or would shortly cease working if bittorrent was running at all on my pc after that…didn’t matter if i wasnt seeding or downloading or anything…just the service running would cause proton to flip the killswitch…so they must have set some kind of scanner to run upon starting the service after i got that notice…lovely

how to pay annonymously?

PT? private torrents?

Proton is slow cuz they no longer allow p2p traffic… you now will literally gt a browser pop up redirect from proton stating as much and they kill your service immediately so you have zero network access, period until you close all torrenting traffic and fully close out of proton and restart it and obtaina new vpn ip address… if you continue to try to torrent, they will blacklist you… found out the hardway last week… i used to use them in a bind if i had no current subcription to other service and just wanted to grab a quick torrent… they weren’t super fast but it used to work and be okay…then last week i tried downloading a torrent and my seed/peer list had TONS of seeders… like 250+…but i could never hit speeds above 10kbps…and then all my seeds would suddenly disappear…then slowly reppear, then disappear, and so on… i tried figuring out the issue for about 5 minutes and then suddenly got hit with the pop-up from proton…

Actually lots of VPNS are starting to either shut down p2p traffic totally or have it offered as a “additional premium add-on”…my best guess? ITs because of legal… lots of big companies have started ramping up their efforts to crack down on leaks and rips and crakcs and such again i have noticed… and you better believe vpn providers are constantly being hit up by lawyers and legal and goverment and such with DCMA and copyright infringement notices and suits… and even if the vpn provider has their ish setup as it should be to protect it users (for example not being able to observe or record logs and data packets) it still costs money to fight off the law and lawyer leeches…so many providers either are ditching p2p totally or by charging extra…

I’ve no clue. I don’t pay with gift cards.

I doubt it, but if you are looking for a VPN that supports more exotic modes of payment, you might wish to check out Mullvad
