Need to hide that I’m using a vpn

Hi,
Tried to search the sub for this but not finding exactly what I’m looking for. Excuse me ahead of time. I’m not very tech savvy, so my lingo may be off. I currently have a vpn, when I connect, I can pull my ip and see that the proxy type is a vpn. Is there someway to hide that? Question 2: i have a job, I do my work on my own laptop, not company provided, do not use a vpn provided through work, but I have to be in a specific state to do my job. Is it possible, that they can see my ip address when I submit my work, just through their website?

Are you using a VPN Provider? Those companies have a limited number of servers on the other end, and your data would appear to come from one of their IPs. These are often on a big list of known IP addresses from VPNs, and those lists are something that companies can monitor. That would cause a website like whatismyip, and others, to recognize your VPN.

Without a VPN, your company will easily see your IP address. With a VPN service, they may or may not pay for access to one of those lists. Either way, it will appear that your traffic comes from the IP of the VPN server in that state.

Try using tor and request a private bridge, then only connect to the website using that.

Yes you can, try finding a VPN that has technology to make their data traffic type resistant to VPN fingerprinting. Otherwise common VPN protocols like OpenVPN, Wireguard, IPSec, etc., are all easily identifiable. There aren’t many VPNs that do this, though the one I own definitely supports this.

Well, if you run your own on a server in the cloud then it wouldn’t be on known VPN lists. But some sites are sneakier and compare your digital fingerprints to known public or semi-public data on you to track you and know when the apparent IP is not associated with you.

Okay and there is no extra service I can pay for to hide that it is coming from a VPN? I am using a VPN provider. Is there some other way to get around this? Maybe with a VPN and an added service of some kind?

But it isn’t available? With your VPN, I can give my employer my ip and when the plug it into a proxy search it will not show as the proxy being a VPN?

Which one are you on?

Check the tor page on bridges or something, it’s somewhere there.

The vastly most common way to detect VPN traffic is to examine the data signature of the packet structure done on the company firewall/switch/network.

If the goal is to avoid that, then using a VPN which has a dynamic fingerprint obfuscation method will allow the traffic to not be detected by the most common methods, and even most advanced ones.

All that said, please don’t risk your work’s security by going against their IT dept rules. The world doesn’t need more of their users getting data breached!

Which vpn does that? I’ve never heard of one that does

My job is very low security, no user data to breach. But thanks for your advice.

I run one that does just that, we are in stealth mode now albeit it is available now via the website that you can see linked to my profile.

Hey u/GamingVPN, I also found this thread by searching undetectable vpn, though I have a very different use-case.

I’m currently using Express, and have my firewalla configured to route traffic for just one firetv device which i wanted to use for a firetv app which blacks out certain areas for some sports. It seems the app is on to it, and have blocked access from their IP ranges. Is there a way to set up your service using an openvpn manual config like theirs, and if so, what city will it look like I’m in when they attempt to geolocate me to determine if blackout applies to my area (or is there a way to select that?).
