Is Google VPN free?

My husband keeps telling me that it is free. I don’t have Google One set up or even know what it does, but when I go to set up Google One the page says I can get a small amount of time free, and that payment will be deducted automatically.

Is it free somehow, or is it only free if you are already paying for Google One?

EDIT: I opened Google One and saw the VPN option right away. I don’t know why I didn’t see it yesterday, unless the option was in an update. Thanks everyone!

If you have a pixel 7/7a/7pro, it’s free for 3 years.

Google changed it up in March. Since then, their VPN is free with ALL Google One plans.

Thanks everyone. I easily found it in the Google One app today. I have no idea why ididnt see it yesterday.

Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro users can use VPN by Google One at no charge on those devices through the Google One app without a Google One membership. Other Google One membership benefits are sold separately. To use VPN by Google One on older Pixel devices, you need a Google One membership.

It comes with any Google one plan now

Is it still free. And is it really a VPN. If one of the largest data collectors/sellers in the world are the ones providing it?
Just feels like private spying at this point.
Or would that be extra permission to spy on you?

5 years, not 3 (from device launch)

Thank you. That certainly implies you dont have to use Google One to have the VPN, but how to actually turn it on??

I just went back into Google One and saw the way to turn it on without subscribing. Now I’m wondering why I didn’t see it yesterday?

There’s a toggle in the quick settings menu. That’s how I use it.
