When I turn on the vpn it shows me the login screen. And when I try to login to my account it either shows connection error, or shuts off my internet conection. I’ve seen a guide on how to fix the issues, but they all require me to open settings. But because I am stuck on the login screen, I can’t access the settings. What do I do? I have the version 3.3.2
Re-install it. What OS?
Would you mind letting us know from which country you’re trying to connect? If possible, can you try the mobile app to see if you experience the same issue? Can you log into your account at protonvpn.com ? Feel free to DM us.
Hey my friend is having the same issue, but he’s in the US, ok I’m late to the party but what could he do to solve it?
Os is windows 10. I tried reinstalling. Same issue.
I an trying to connect from Russia. The mobile app works perfectly fine (although originally I needed to connect to it using a different VPN). I can log in on the website (although, again, I need to use VPN or Tor to access the website in the first place.).
First off I’d recoment checking the common causes of those issues: like checking if you have a second vpn on, or checking if firewall/antivirus cause some issues, etc.
If common stuff isn’t the problem, I did found a solution, but it’s only for windows: First off you’ll need to download OpenVPN GUI. Then you’ll need to set it up and connect to one of proton’s free configuration servers. Here’s official documentation on how to do it. You can find your OpenVPN username and password in your account settings on the proton website. Then with OpenVPN connected to a configuration server, open the proton app and try to log in. If you manage to log in, disconnect from the configuration server, then turn off OpenVPN and just use the proton app. It should work fine now. If there are problems with OpenVPN connection try using a different configuration server. And if there are any other problems with proton, try turning proton off, turn on OpenVPN and connect to a configuration server using it, then turn proton back on, disconnect from configuration servers turn off OpenVPN and check if proton is working.
But i’m not the best person to ask that sort of questions, since I myself don’t understand much and probably wrote some stuff wrong, since english isn’t my native language.
Make sure to have alternative routing turned on: https://proton.me/blog/anti-censorship-alternative-routing
Russia has heavy VPN restrictions, so we can’t guarantee that you’ll be able to use our service across every platform at all times. If you’re able to log into the client, try the Stealth protocol as your best chance to successfully connect to a VPN server: https://protonvpn.com/blog/stealth-vpn-protocol/
