I downloaded Itop vpn without wanting it, anything bad happened?

I literally just woke up and as my pc started up it showed “your ip address has been leaked” or whatever, it looked like a windows thing so i clicked the button to “protect myself” and it instantly download this thing, i might be wrong bc memory is fuzzy but i think when it showed my ip was leaked it showed the wrong one, and then when i installed it showed the right one, so i’m kinda scared

I’m running Surfshark (no logs kept). And, I’ve tried 4 or 5 of the other no log vpn’s, ExpressVPN and the rest. Tried iTop VPN, and it “felt” really shaky. I couldn’t find out any info as far as where the servers really are, and who is able to monitor/log/review my internet presence.

Not trying to get too much into the weeds about this, but under the Obama regime, a law was passed that forces vpn’s based in america to allow “law enforcement” free access to your accounts any time they want WITHOUT needing a search warrant.

I’m not doing anything illegal, it just pisses me off that our justice system has been weaponized against whatever political party isn’t in power at the time.

Sooooo, I strongly advise anyone getting a vpn to:

  1. Find a company NOT based in the USA

  2. Ensure that the company does NOT keep logs.

Surfshark, for me, was the fastest vpn that wasn’t in the US, and didn’t keep logs.

Your mileage may vary depending upon where you are.

ik this was 3 months ago but i was ussing smartgamebooster and suddenly the pop up comes up i got frightened and clicked download so i wanted to ask did you unnistall it or have you been using it up till now

That pop-up that your ip address has been leaked is more than likely just something to scare you into downloading their product. I get the same pop-up, it says in a small font that when you click “protect yourself” you agree to download itop vpn. I don’t believe there’s any harm in the program itself feel free to uninstall.

I got it before when I already had a VPN I also never remember installing anything with the name IO or Itop. I wouldn’t get it

I noticed Itop VPN tries to contact 5 IP addresses in Russia every 4 minutes.

45.91.67.94
45.144.3.211
45.87.104.42
194.116.190.84
45.144.3.168

uninstall of course, shady shit

ok doesn’t seem like anything bad happened, just weird that it showed on startup also i was awake for like 3 minutes when this happened so i didn’t evwn think about it

Yeah its a little weird. It seems to bundle itself into other programs and install secretly.

Happened to me when I updated iObit Uninstaller - maybe for you, too. iObit are now adding iTop software to their program without even asking whether the user wants it, and I’m strongly considering to stop using iObit altogether because of that.
