What was the fastest server (country/city) you found on Mullvad?
I am from Europe and the fastest server i found are Norway and the second one is Sweden. Those servers goes up to 600 Mbps down, 300 Mbps up on my 1Gbps local connection, all other are much much slower (under 50 Mbps), some even non usable. Dont know why some servers in Germany for example are that bad even its real Mullvad owned servers but that is what it is…
Have you tried all the countries that are close to Croatia, like Italy, Switzerland, Austria, Hungary or Romania?
Maybe it’s just your connection to the servers.
Living in Germany and pretty much all German servers give me ~900mbps down / ~50mbps up (so my whole connection).
You could try to adjust the MTU size

For high speed, the closer the server the better. Support should be able to answer this one.
I get 850 down and 50 up with my 1gb connection. My upload is maxed at 50 normally. Chicago, IL USA server.
Which protocol, WireGuard or OpenVPN?
That soooo weird, now i got on Vienna, Austria 870/910 Mbps, and few weeks ago it was like 150/70, hmm… maybe they changed something but it wasnt like that the last time i checked Austria!! Will try tomorrow again, also with Italy and Hungary… but geographically Vienna, Austria is the closest available Mullvad server from my location (Zagreb, Croatia)
Huh, thats really weird. I am in Croatia and Germany is closer to me than Norway or Sweden, but no… german servers are always so crap and scandinavian works great. But even on Norway/Sweden I cant get back the whole 1 down / 1 up Gbps connection 100% back, but ok, 50% is fine too…
which server do you connect to in chicago. theres a bunch. I’m trying 05 via tunnel on ddwrt & its only getting 13.2mbps & I have gigabit.

This doesn’t apply to Austria but a lot of regions have multiple server providers. You may have better connection to one provider compared to the other. Check the Servers section on mullvad’s website to see what providers host which servers.
Also I don’t know what you use to test your speeds but speedtest is not super reliable with fast internet connections. Try using speedtest-cli instead of the web version, and try multiple different servers in different countries since there can be congestion between a VPN server and speedtest server that you use, maybe some big providers too like Telia or RETN.
You can also try Cloudflare’s speedtest (google that one) which may be more reliable since Cloudlfare’s network coverage is huge.
But better yet - torrents, at least for download speeds. Don’t forget to set up port forward in case of torrents for maximum speed and download some torrent which has plenty of seeders like some Linux ISO.
Yeah, that make sense. Too bad Mullvad dont have server in Croatia… guess i have to try with other VPN’s, i can see ExpressVPN have it…

In terms of privacy and security, I can recommend “Perfect Privacy”. But they are not that fast.
Oh great, thanx for info! I have used ProtonVPN long time ago but as a free trial account, i dont remember why but i wasnt satisfied with them for some reason, i think its time to give a try once again!
