I have been using hotspot shield prenium for a few time now and I got two emails about me pirating. The first time, I was pretty sure I accidentally downloaded something on my wifi, but it wasn’t too bad since I had two. Ever since I got the first email, I was always double checking to make sure it was on, but then I got another. I clearly remember turning it on, so I am pretty sure hotspot doesn’t protect your ip

either they sent your info forward, or you had a leak when you were downloading, which could happen.
use qbittorent and go the settings and change the interface to whatever your vpn is, so it will never use any connection that ISNT your vpn, also yeah i would use mullvad or proton. i have used cyberghost too, i dont think they are the best choice but they are one of the cheapest that have torrenting servers.

You should absolutely avoid Hotspot Shield or VPN 360, they’re both owned by the same company. Their VPN app is loaded with tracking scripts.
