I’m not really a sonicwall admin, just a user who needs to connect to the VPN I’m provided for work.
GVC is a windows only client, but is it at all possible to connect to a particular VPN server without the client through some generic client? I’m on Fedora and the option to make a VPN connection via the network manager exists for vpnc compatible with Sonicwall IPsec connections.
Issue with using that option is there’s stuff like Group Name and stuff whereas the only information I have to connect to GVC is host, username and password.
For some reason this topic has eluded me so i just want to know if it’s even possible. Thanks in advance.
No unfortunately. I asked my network admin about it and they said they had an alternative but then ghosted me even after I’d requested a follow up 3 times >.>
Thanks but this is the first thing I’ve tried. Netextender and GVC use different protocols like IPsec vs SSL or something like that. I’m able to make a “connection” and log in successfully but I get an error regarding my user group not being configured under ssl or something (I don’t have access to the error message atm).
I’ve put in a request but I’m getting no response as is typical from this guy, so I was just hoping to have something I could use/look into as a backup. I don’t see why GVC can’t be connected to from a different client if it uses the same protocol as it, but I also don’t see why GVC doesn’t have Linux support. Gah.
Yeah, I’m not sure why, but I know they stopped development on any GVC stuff as they’re moving to SSL-VPN (and going to get rid of GVC at some point I presume)! Not sure if there’s any way to get it done, but I’ve never found one!
That’s fair enough. I’m not sure why our company went with GVC, I hear it’s faster but less secure, so maybe that’s it. I guess I’ll just try pester our admin. Thanks for the insight.
