Just noticed that there is a toggle in Settings for VPN. Only option is to toggle on/off.
Is this a built-in VPN or does it toggle any 3rd-party VPN app you might have installed?
It’s been there for many years, and yes you need a config file. Or it can be used to turn on and off a third party vpn app
I have PIA and this switch toggles it. Kinda nice but nothing I couldn’t do already with the PIA widget.
I would love an iOS vpn I could not turn off or delete under certain circumstances
I found that after the installing Microsoft defender I had this bon option start showing in settings. And when I go to general/vpn device nanagement/VPN that it indeed shows MS defender as the source

Could someone dumb this down for me, I’m just a Phd: Why and when do I need a VPN? They moved it to the control center like it’s a regular thing people use and most regular people don’t even know what it is.

I have legit never had this option in my settings. Unless you had to dig deeper previous to iOS 17 and they just placed it in a more accessible position, that might be the case here. I wouldn’t know since I have yet to start using a VPN although I probably should.
Does Google One have VPN included? I have a subscription for 2 TB storage.
It was in 15 for sure, I used it a handful of times.

yes it does. you have to download the One app to use. i’ve noticed it just makes my phone slower, but you may need/want to use it
I still don’t have it and I have the latest iOS version- 18.3.1

Well, not on my phone. Just found a screenshot from two years ago just to confirm I wasn’t crazy and it’s indeed not there in my settings.
Has not been showing for me until now on iOS 17. Could it be a region thing? I’m located in Norway.

Settings > VPN only shows up if you have a VPN configured, if you don’t then you can go to Settings > General > VPN & Device Management > VPN to configure one.
