Aura - is it any good?

I’ve been getting recommendations about Aura. Looked into it and it seems to be a comprehensive package of anti-virus, VPN, Password Manager, etc.

But I was curious if anyone here has tried it and if it’s any good (specifically the anti-virus portion)?

I actually have Aura. The Anti-Virus would be nice if it worked. A virus actually got thru and infected my computer. I have 3 open support cases with their tech support department, and to date have had no reply. You cannot speak to a human directly about this. The humans will just create a case number and tell you to call back in a week or so if you haven’t heard anything. I have sent e-mails requesting updates. I went to log into my account and someone changed the phone number tied to the 2 step authentication, so I can’t even log into my account. Their vanilla screen has an option for “recover account” but why should I have to do anything (spend hours) to fix something they did. Even then, I will loose the support case numbers that have been in for weeks. Be aware, they have no tech support for the anti-virus portion of their product, it is probably farmed out to an outside vendor. Also, make sure you read their terms and conditions very carefully before signing up, they just changed them. This product is not equivalent to Norton in any way. However, Norton is much more expensive and hogs memory and processing time. As soon as I can, I will be cancelling Aura. I have had it for a year now. Do your homework before you sign up. I would suggest any other product but.

I have Aura, but only because I didn’t file for a refund in time.

There are other packages that do most of their key features, both better and more cheaply.

The future that got my attention was their unusual transaction alert. They said it was supported by machine learning. I think it’s supported by machine amnesia. They haven’t got a clue as to how to implement this. The alerts are so frequent and so spurious that you pretty much have to turn it off. When I do turn it on it gives me a text message, a notification and an email all alerting me to the horror of having actually gone to a grocery.

I have discussed this with the multiple times. They will flag repetitive transactions, like subscriptions as unusual and send up a flurry of panic messages.

It really is a terrible implementation. The people running their machine learning software are clueless at best.

Save your money. Get a good VPN, get a good identity scrubber, get a good antivirus. There are many vendors that have these products and they are perfectly decent.

I got it and didn’t really get any benefit from it. I didn’t realize that I was on auto-renew so when I got the notice I cancelled that day, but unless you cancel in advance you’re stuck. I got an email asking me to call them to “discuss” the cancellation but the operator said there was nothing she could do, so not sure why they invited a discussion. I have since disputed the charge with the financial institution, since I will be receiving a product that I don’t want for a whole year, but if that doesn’t work that’s a hundred bucks down the drain.

Signed up for their free trial but still had to give cc info. Entered all my info and husband’s for couples plan. As soon as I closed the app, I received one email saying they were sorry to ‘see me go’ and that my membership had been canceled. I tried to log back in only to find all my info was gone!

5 minutes later I received another email welcoming me to Aura! Info still gone. I sent an email to their CS stating the problem and ‘no thanks - please don’t sign me up’. I received the ‘we’ll contact you within 48 hours’ reply. That was over 1 week ago.

Don’t bother with these guys. Even if their product is great their customer service and communications are horrible.

It’s a scam. Endorsed by a celebrity , powered by A.I…

I switched from LifeLock to Aura last year and I’m beginning to question how well the platform works in terms of Identity Theft Protection. Today, I signed up for a new credit card. While the application was being processed, I immediately received a notification from CreditKarma. Three hours later, I’ve yet to receive a notification from Aura. I contacted Aura and the representative advised me that he didn’t see anything on his end. In the past when I had a subscription to LifeLock, I was notified immediately whenever someone ran my credit (along with CreditKarma). I don’t believe that I will be renewing my subscription with Aura. Lastly, my credit score has yet to post on Aura. When I log into the 3 credit bureaus and CreditKarma, my scores are available there.

I read the same and so dove in… to save money I purchased the family/couple edition and payed the yearly price. Unfortunately, it was a huge mistake. After joining up, it took over 60 days until someone opened a bank account in my name and I only found out when I received a debit card in my name to my house. Aura never detected anything, yet when I called asking for a refund they said I was past the 60 day return period. First, I am not impressed with aura’s ability to detect identity theft and fraudent account opening monitoring… but also when they fail they are not willing to make it right. Also, their 60 day return period doesn’t mean anything because they can and will fail after 60 days and you will be left with nothing more than a empty application that serves no purpose to you for $264 + dollars (if you mistakenly sign up for the yearly subscription service to save money… which they hard sell you on). I am realizing now why they try to hook you into buying the yearly service, because when they fail and they will, you will be left holding the bag. They don’t typically fail immediately… it will always be after the return period and they will not do anything to make it right. I now had to pay for yet another service (LifeLock) in order to have appropriate monitoring and will continue to pay for both for an entire year.

Misrepresentation-Aura completely misrepresents their service
I have 4 protection services due to a lot of identity theft. Experian, True Identity, through my credit card and Life Lock. I also have a separate VPN. I have other ways of getting dark web alerts.
I signed up for Aura expressly to get alerts on social security alert fraud/other identity theft for property etc.
When I signed up this was how it was represented.
I just learned that Aura does nothing of the kind!!! My package monitors credit cards and that’s about it.
I have so much redundancy that I never would have signed up for Aura for such a service. I asked only for a pro-rated refund after explaining my disappointment. “Support” was extraordinarily unhelpful after waiting to talk to a human. This service is horrible!

I just got aura and it does make me nervous putting basically all my info on one app (social, bank account, birth certificate, etc) so thats why im looking into it on reddit but are there even any better alternatives or should I just do nothing to protect myself and hope for the best? Ive been fortunate to never have any incidents happen but you never know.

Worst service ever, refuse to let you cancel unless you call them and try to charge you $150 until you do. Do NOT recommend simply for shitty business practice that I’m almost positive isn’t legal

somewhat unrelated, but I use Aura’s vpn service on my semi-old laptop (Thinkpad t480, CPU clock speed 1.57ghz), and I notice that just having the vpn active requires a huge portion of my cpu capacity. Upwards of 50%! I have no clue what they’re doing with all that cpu power, for all i know they could be mining crypto lol. not that my cpu would be any good at that seeing how old and crusty it is lol

Aura has old information about me. It lists properties i sold years ago and shows I still own them. It doesn’t show my current vehicles. There’s no way to edit the info about your property. With so much wrong info about me I cancelled and couldn’t trust them.

I used aura, not a big fan of it.

I cancelled my subscription and out of nowhere I am now seeing "!-SCPGT02" files in my C & D drive (as excel, jpeg, pdf and word files)

I tried searching on google and it lead me to this link that I am sharing below. https://www.reddit.com/r/computerviruses/comments/yagsi0/my_laptop_has_scpgt_files_how_to_remove_them/
Turns out a lot more people faced this issue & all these files were created by Aura itself !!!

I tried to open one of those files & it has garbage text like “Scape Goat Doc File”. This raised serious red-flags.

Never going to renew my Aura subscription again.

Is Norton a good protection for my iphone?

I’m a bit late to the party but my experience has been positive. They got my information off of 41 data broker’s websites including Lexus Nexus. They put you on the federal do not call list and have your credit score displayed on your home page and the reasoning behind it. They have information that I didn’t know was out there. Back in 2000 I bought a 40 year old junkyard car and they had its vin number.
The VPN works

They are not to be trusted, downloaded after purchasing and it asked for my bank log in info, called my bank and they cannot do that, I canceled and got my money back, If my social security number is on the dark web so let it be, I have a security with my bank that informs me with alerts for only 4 dollars a month.

Despite stating that they have 24/7 customer service, Aura has no customer service and no VPN services to see programs abroad.
