I have a L2TP VPN running on my own router so I can access my home network when away. I would like to be able to do the same when I take my Roku away from home. Is there a way to install a L2TP client on my Roku 3?
Nope. You have to use a router based VPN for the Roku. You can get a cheap mobile router that can do this though. The TP-Link TL-WR902AC for example. It can even connect to hotel WiFi and let you create your own private hotspot.
Only way I can see to accomplish this would be to run it off a hotspot on your phone and install the VPN on your phone
I see a few travel routers out there with vpn.

Edit. Not saying these are the best ones. But it’s a start point.
The other option would be a raspberry pi based DIY variant.
Old link but proof of concept. https://makezine.com/projects/browse-anonymously-with-a-diy-raspberry-pi-vpntor-router/
The easiest way for me to do it was getting an Amazon Fire Stick. I don’t like it as much as my Roku but sometimes I need to VPN. It works great though.
What settings/app would you recommend on FireStick to VPN (L2TP) back into my my own router?
I use a service called VyprVPN. It allows me to “be” anywhere in the world. It works really well and they’ve been fast enough for what I need.
I am looking for a VPN client that will allow me to get into MY VPN, not someone elses.
There are VPN clients that you can configure to use your own. Just pointing out that it’s possible on the fire stick. It’s just running Android.
That is what I am asking. *What VPN client can I use to access a L2TP VPN server that is running on my own router? * Telling me that ones exist is not helping at all.
I know it is running android, but on all the android devices I have used in the past, I recall that the VPN client is baked in to the Settings, and those Settings are not the same on FireOS devices.
