I went to lunch, came back and now I can’t log in. I hadn’t changed anything. I then updated my password, no change. I can log into the website just fine but can’t connect with OpenVPN.
Click on the NordVPN tab on the left panel which is under the Services tab.
Scroll down and locate the Manual Setup tab, then click on Set up NordVPN manually:
Verify your email by entering the one-time code you will receive in your registered email inbox. If you are unable to find the email, please make sure to also check your spam/junk folder.
Copy your service credentials by using the buttons on the right.
It’s lovely that their customer support chat representative that I’ve been talking with had no idea about this, and that they wasted a bunch of my time. Guess I should have gone to reddit for NordVPN support, instead of asking NordVPN about it… Thanks for the post!
Yes, getting AUTH_FAILED on every server today as well.
ETA: OpenVPN on Windows and Linux with the same service credentials that have been working for 2.5 years; the subscription is still paid until next year.
i’m finding socks proxy isn’t working now, even with new service credential walkthrough provided by u/autodidacticasaurus. and thank you for that info, btw.
I got my token but I’m unsure if I have to change something about my Openvpn Config File to work with the token. Right now I can’t connect.
EDIT: Completly missed that after generating the token a new Username and Password shows up aswell. I don’t have to change anything in the openvpn config files because I can just use username and password for authentication again.
Happened to me on my laptop this morning as well, using Manjaro Linux. Authentication prompt keeps popping up, password box is autofilled with the same password I’ve used for years. Windows PC using the app is working fine, and I was able to log into my account on the NordVPN website and confirm my subscription is still active.
Edit: Just saw OP’s update, going to give it a shot now.
Edit2: Service Credentials worked. Thanks OP! Wish Nord would give us a heads up when making these changes…
It took an hour to figure this out. They sent an email and the created an username an password based on your credentials and you need to use that in the services tab
They made a huge change to the way that you connect using OpenVPN, and NordVPN didn’t make any sort of announcement. And from the sound of it, the NordVPN support team had no idea of the changes.
