Any alternatives to the Anyconnect VPN?

My cisco annyconect vpn has not been working at all for the past week, as it gives me a login timeout when I try to login. I’ve tried uninstalling/reinstalling but to no avail. Do any other VPN services exist that can log me in to UCSD’s network? Or maybe does anyone know how I can write a script that can log me in?

Thanks in advance

Interesting, I believe the most likely issue is Duo related based on the info you’ve provided here. If you are a student, Duo 2 step became required on the VPN recently (or a few months ago for employees), so please make sure you are using a 2 step secured connection method. Additionally, when you click connect it will use your default authentication method, so if check for a push on your mobile device. You can also use other authentication methods, more details on this can be found here. If you recently got a new device (and the Duo app does not have UC San Diego Campus listed when you open it) you may need to reactivate Duo on that device. For this, I would recommend reaching out to us so we can walk you through this process (contact info at the bottom).

You can also try using the web based VPN, just go to vpn.ucsd.edu and choose method 2stepsecured - EasyConnect.

If you continue to have issues and these solutions do not work, would you mind reaching out to the Service Desk? We can be reached at [email protected], (858) 246-4357 (open from 7AM-10PM weekdays, 12-3 weekends), or AP&M 1313 (open from 8-4:30 weekdays). We can try and see if it’s an issue with the account or an issue with the computer itself possibly.

Thanks for the reply, I have indeed been using duo, and it was working fine with the vpn until recently. Unfortunately I mainly use the vpn to connect to a server on campus to access files using smb://, so the vpn website won’t be of much use. Do you maybe know of a way I can do this without VPN?

In any case I’ve submitted a ticket for ITS.

Unfortunately I don’t know of an alternative currently for that in particular, but submitting a ticket is great first step to finding the best solution for your situation. We’ll take a look at the issue ASAP and see how we can best assist. Even though it’s not helpful for your case, are you able to log into the VPN on vpn.ucsd.edu? If so that points towards it being an issue with the device as opposed to the account, so that may be helpful for you to respond to the ticket with that detail. We apologize for any inconvenience this issue may cause but we’re here to help!
