1.1.1.1

Why is this not mentioned?? I mean it’s not that fast, but it serves it’s purpose as for blocking the isp out of the loop. Is this just a service that is not widely known?? I mean it’s free.

It’s not a VPN. It won’t change your IP or encrypt your connection.

1.1.1.1 is Cloudflare’s public DNS server, you can use this instead of your ISP’s default DNS server. All it does is resolve website domains into an IP address so your device knows which server to connect to.

It’s not a VPN, it doesn’t encrypt your traffic, nor hide your IP address.

Using it can bypass DNS poisoning and DNS filtering from your ISP.

I mean technically he’s right, their WARP service is a VPN however by the widely accepted understanding of the term in popular culture ie IP masking and DNS encryption, it isn’t.

I prefer to use 1.1.1.2 (that’s 1.1.1.1 with malware filters) at network level for fast and secure resolving but not at device level for the above reason.

Is it actually faster?

Looking at the Comments here i would suspect most People dont know that they actually have a VPN Service and not only DNS.

Problem with this is also that a lot of People say that a VPN has to change your external IP-Address which is not true for the Technical Definition

So the downside is no encryption or ip change. What about the warp+ the upgrade to that is it considered a vpn?

1.1.1.1 is a vpn service

No it’s not any faster it adds about 10ms to the connection…and I have the fastest Comcast provides

Warp is not the 1.1.1.1 dns resolver.

I didn’t know that. I’ve only known about their DNS and CDN services.

I mean I downloaded the app did a tracert in cmd and it completely avoided my isp while I had it on……??? Isn’t that the purpose of a vpn?

How does it work on streaming services?

I highly doubt it would work here in China, I should test it to see.

But it has an app……like a vpn……so now I’m confused…while it was on it went out to like a 96……whatever with it off it goes to my isp. Even if it doesn’t encrypt my data does it do enough to keep them from knowing what I do?

The mobile app VPN? It just makes a local vpn so it can change your DNS iirc.

Nope, it has two modes. The DNS over HTTPS/TLS Mode and the Wireguard Mode were your Complete Connection is rerouted
