Which VPN is the best?

Proton. They still respect the principle of warrant canaries and regular independent audits of software and infrastructure.

openvpn or protonvpn (Uses partly openvpn)

I’ve used ProtonVPN for a few years now. It’s worked great, and you get a lot of other stuff with it as well. They’ve been developing a lot of stuff very recently. The proton drive (storage) is fairly new, and the new password vault is good, with options to import from most major pre-existing password managers (like bitwarden).

Proton seems to have been putting the money we pay them into new services.

Came here to say this.

This is the only right answer

3.1 reviews doe. Y is that?

I don’t know much about these VPN companies but i see it this way.
Why should i risk myself using multiple VPNs knowing if only one of those fail me (and if i did something “bad” using it) i will be compromised?

Best practice should be to use only a trusted one then, right?

Internet security is based on certificates and certificate authority. A legit authority needs to have a reputation and trust established for people to be comfortable with it, and even those get compromised and their keys get stolen. VPN providers install certificate authorities on client devices out of the getgo with no trust established. That allows them to literally hijack all your traffic, even when not using the VPN. It’s astonishing to me how people believe those VPNs give them privacy and protection.

SECURITY, you need a fortified network using ethernet, good firewall setup, a good browser that you can customize settings in, and have an isolated machine along with proper account compartmentalization.

you also should have a VPN  (IE when using public wifi, using a VPN is more for security than privacy).

“Products like NordVPN and ExpressVPN are alright” - excuse me, what? in which world would you ever consider them alright or even an option when it comes to opsec or VPN usage in general

why on earth would you judge a service based off its google play rating lol

mullvad is the gold standard.

It is good to use one with a secure reputation, but what you should aim for is not having to “trust” any single point of failure.

i never hear about it, it’s as good as the people said? and also, it’s work “good” with not so good conection? because sometimes my internet troll me and it’s a little bit shit :,)

In a general sense, they are a VPN that works. If somebody just wants an easy solution, it’s perfectly suitable for them. For people that do more research instead of blindly listening to their favorite YouTube creator, it’s probably not for them.

If you care about opsec, a VPN probably isn’t even needed. For general usage, again, they work. A VPN doesn’t make you anonymous. It doesn’t provide more security compared to HTTPS. It mainly just changes your IP so geolocked items are free. If that’s all you care about, any VPN will do just fine.

Think of less technical people. They just want the easiest solution. They don’t care about RAM storage or no log systems. They don’t care there are thousands of servers in hundreds of countries. They just want their content. If at the right price, Nord or Express may be the perfect fit for them.

Not that products like Mullvad aren’t easy to use, but their accounts work differently and I believe even auto-pay is no longer an option so they can’t store your payment data. Having to pay for something every single month without autopay could be a downside for many people unless they fully understand the upsides the service provides. Again, somebody not good with technology won’t understand any of that.

Products like Nord or Express can keep adverting because they are making bank. But they don’t make bank on people like you or me. They make bank on people who want a one click solution. In their particular markets, they are great. People who know better won’t even consider them as an option and as a company, Nord or Express don’t care.

Sauce for helping the feds part?

oh damn, the only issue is mullvad isn’t free but that’s alr cause its not that expensive to maintain a little bit privacy + free stuff is always bait

It has reasonable pricing at 5€ a month fixed
It allows for anonymous payment methods like crypto and cash by mail.
They claim strong privacy due to no logging, anonymous account numbers and a jurisdiction in which LE can’t hijack the VPN which is supported by a recent raid on them where no data was handed over. ( It’s still just a VPN so keep that in mind)

I can’t really speak to how well it works on bad internet but they offer a bunch of different connection methods. You’re unlikely to notice improvement from other providers. Plus they support openvpn so basically all types of devices are supported.

This thread started with “From an OPSEC perspective” so I’m not sure how you can even argue with Nord or Express - besides the fact that they obviously log.

sounds so cool and it’s more cheap than i think dude, i had in mind a high price for it. If i buy it i will test if with my connection it’s cool and work good, thanks!

ExpressVPN was already raided in the past and since they use RAM storage, they left empty handed. Nord is also moving to that. But again, they spend all their money on dishonest advertising about VPNs.

Of course, they probably log account information like any other online service but traffic logs may not be. Can you provide details where traffic was successfully recovered and use in purjury?

Can you also explain why you think they are so horrible? Neither are a solution I would use personally but you also haven’t said why. You are not really proving a point… You seem to simply be on the hate train with no reason to hate besides the fact others do. Please enlighten me.
