Thank you for the suggestions. Most of the comments just say it’s trash but then don’t explain why it’s bad or what would be better. I’m coming from a position of “hey I just have mcafee because my parents put it on my computer and I want to do research but I don’t know a lot of the fancy terms or know enough to fully assess the quality of the product given the marketing and ads they have”

So like I will fully own up to just being dumb but I’d at least like to know more instead of just “it sucks obviously”

I’ve used McAfee for years and I agree, but not about the VPN. They won’t let if stay connected each time I log in I have to MANUALLY connect. The rep told me I needed to check-AUTO-RENEW, I said, YEAH AND you surprise me by charging my credit card 2 times the amount I normally pay, until I wait on hold to speak to a rep that acts like he/she is doing me a favor to go back to the $44 annual cost. I tell them I can but it at Office depot-same package for $39.99 plus tax

What would you consider to be better? (Genuine question. I have mcafee because my parents set it up on my laptop. I don’t understand the fancy lingo and I don’t trust the ads)

Besides the getting shit on through a hammock, I think McAfee was a badass. If I ever became super rich I’d hope to have the balls to try and take over a small South American country and post videos about me fucking whores and doing blow

I personally use Symantec on my mac and then BitDefender Total Security on Windows and Android

Pia VPN is pretty good in my opinion. They don’t keep logs, have good speed and let you use streaming services that are region locked.

As for the VPN, I wouldn’t use any VPN bundled with an AV, as they tend to just be rebadged crapware.

Cortex is free yes I’ve used it for about 4 months now with the daily system booster scan to empty unwanted files in my system. Works like a goddamn charm and with both mcaffee total protection and windows defender I have anti-virus, Anti-Malware, and firewall protection across the whole scale.

But be careful because other sites like to scam out on mcaffee. Total protection isn’t cheap and if it’s a 10 dollar a month bundle it’s fake. Total protection starts out at 40 bucks a month for the real deal. But works amazingly

McAfee programs just consume your pc’s resources and do nothing. They also steal and sell your data

I see a lot of sketchy “free” downloads stuff (like on cnet) that has mcafee bundled with it. Along with Avast & AVG.
