VPN service

Hi there

I have a tz300 at home and looking to get a VPN service (I.e nordvpn, expressvpn etc) setup on the sonicwall so the whole family is covered Does anyone have a service they are currently using this setup. From what I can see most providers offer openVPN which I don’t believe Sonicwalls can connect to.

I’m curious, what presumed benefit would you gain by always being being a specific vpn other then hiding your home ip? And if that is the reason, what is the purpose?

You’d need to look at the IPSec setup options.

Nord I beleive will involve importing a certificate into the Sonicwall and setting up and IPSec / ikev2 tunnel (using certificate authentication).

I’ve never done it myself but a quick glance at Connect to NordVPN (IKEv2/IPSec) on Windows – Live Chat, VPN Setup, Troubleshooting | NordVPN Customer Support suggests that is probably the route you’ll need to take.

Edit: There are a couple of other articles if you search for IKEv2 on Nords page regarding setup on some other vendors (ie DrayTek) which might help you get the proper settings for the connection negotiation. Once you get the VPN running you’ll also need to tell the Sonicwall to route all internet traffic over the VPN tunnel (rather than your WAN). This will either be done in the VPN policy or through routing rules depending on how the tunnel was setup in the end.

News flash!

No one is hacking your family computer.

If I follow your question, there is no VPN client in SonicOS. You can make it a VPN server or configure a point to point VPN but you won’t be able to connect it to a third party VPN provider

You’re getting a VPN service in addition to having a real firewall?

Why?

My internet is to fast and I need to slow it down.

I don’t want my ISP to see my internet traffic but some random VPN retailer is ok. I really need to read TOS for these providers.

Thank you will give it a try this evening.

I would imagine he wants to protect & anonymize each and every device within his home network without having to install different NordVPN clients on each device - exactly as I did with my SonicWall TZ570. This also does the same thing for anyone who comes to the house and visits, while using my guest SSID on my WIFI network.

Thanks for the reply. I was asking because I was curious, not because I was surprised.

And I thought I made this comment in the past week, not a year+ ago! Haha
