Top VPN and other Security Software?

I’m coming up to renew and wondering what others use. iOS phone and Windows laptop. Prefer to keep them separate.

Edit: Don’t care if paid either!!

VPN: Highly recommend swedish Mullvad! Been using for years.

  • Lots of servers all over the world
  • Extremely privacy focused
  • Super speeds (often maxing my 500/500 on basically every server I’ve tested)
  • OpenVPN and Wireguard support
  • Great apps for mobile clients/windows/mac and support for ovpn and wg config files
  • Straight forward (and cheap!) pricing (5 Euros/month for 5 devices/wg keys)
    • Pay by credit card/PayPal, crypto, or even by mail in cash(!)
  • Great web page/guides
  • Optional port forwarding (per client) possible.

It just checks every box for me!

For security software I mainly use Windows Defender. I’ve tried (and liked) both BitDefender and ESET, but I’m not really sure if it’s even necessary anymore.

ProtonVPN is yet to let me down on both iOS and windows. And I have used multiple VPNs before, best/most consistent results I personally had with a paid VPN is Proton.

Literally only Mullvad is a viable option. Every other VPN listed here cooperates with governments.

Mullvad.
Or a service of proxies like faceless or vip72

Express VPN and bitdefender

I use PIA (private internet access) as a vpn. Says no logs.

And I use Norton for a security software but I’m sure that it’s not the best.

Proton mail VPN works well for me. I like the secure email as well. It’s not a mainstream as the others, but it’s fast and easy to connect to servers all over the world.

NordVPN+sophos+protonmail running on a Virtual OS.

Deploy a unix system on a cloud service(azure, aws, digital ocean etc.) configure your own openvpn, depending on your actions ofc.

https://mullvad.net/ for me is incredible.
I keep almost my full speed (400mbps) over VPN when testing in Sweden.
They don’t want your info so bad that the buying process is quite weird. You don’t create a username and password. You just sign up, they assign you a random generated number that has enough entropy to not getting brute force. And this unique number is your account/login/password.

A little more expensive than others like PIA. ~60$ per year if I remember correctly.

And they give you a discount if you pay in crypto.

ProtonVPN, and malwarebytes. No need for anything else. Definitely don’t do Norton, Kaspersky, or the like.

I use ExpressVPN….I find the speed ok(ish)…knocks my internet down from 270mbs to around 70mbs….they state they don’t keep logs…but I don’t think I do anything to outrages that would require someone to come after me for them to try and get my logs ha….good selection of different locations around the world to shoot around to if need be

NordVPN works great for me so far and they have supposably strict no-log policy

Windows Defender is probably one of the best AVs, don’t bother with paid anti-virus software. Working at an MSP that was our professional advice, however, if clients didn’t like that we would use BitDefender.

When it comes to VPNs, not really sure. I personally don’t use a VPN but I don’t do any shady business and I have a VPN setup to my Raspberry Pi for when I go out. I also have Pi-Hole setup which can help block tracking.

I’m a fan of Cyberghost for my VPN and Sophos. I have bit defender as well, but over the years Sophos has caught things that bit defender did not and not the other way around.

So far very happy with Surf Shark.

NordVPN is pretty good

NordVPN with Malwarebytes

windows defender and not vpn
