I’ve used Hidemyass as a VPN for a little over 2-years, and my subscription ends in a few days. I have no interest in renewing my subscription with them for various reasons. I thought I’d leave these here for those of you seeking anonymous VPN providers for torrenting.
I might be more inclined to go with a service that publicly states they have no interest in logging or whether you torrent or not.
From HMA
The main type of logging is session logging – this is simply logging when a customer connects and disconnects from the server, this identifies who was connected to X IP address at X time, this is what we do and all we do. Some providers choose not to do session logging and instead try to locate the abusive customer by using the intelligence from the complaint, for example if someone hacks XYZ.com they may monitor traffic to XYZ.com and log which customers have a connection to this website.
Yeah, despite their name, hidemyass is actually one of the least anonymous VPN’s around. They’re also pretty slow because they’re way oversold. For just torrenting, I recommend BTGuard proxy. This article Hidemyass vs btguard may shed some light. Other good non-logging vpn’s are Torguard, Mullvad, and Private Internet Access (my personal favorite). http://www.best-bittorrent-vpn.com has a bunch of p2p related reviews and articles which should be useful.
Oh quit your whining. This is exactly what you should expect Hidemyass or any modern VPN service to do. As long as they send you that letter, THEY are complying with the law. The DMCA makes them liable. Would you prefer that they do nothing and have their assets seized instead?
Don’t you see what the benefit is here? Instead of handing over your name and address like your ISP would, they just sent you a DMCA notification. That’s it. The media corporations DO NOT have your name now, because the VPN protected your identity. The media corporations are NOT sending you threatening letters demanding that you pay them a settlement. No, instead you’re getting a friendly email from your trusty VPN provider.
I’m using cloudnymous for more than 3 months without any subscription and spent under $5. Isn’t that cool?
It’s strange the competitors don’t realize that this type of pricing model is what users want.
They have actually stated in a private e-mail to me that, because they are not US based, there is no reason for them to answer to DCMA letters.
WOW O.O i thought your supposed to be anon well i found a webiste that is for like iran vpns and i know they have real problemss over there http://iransecurevpn.blogspot.com/
