I’ve been using windscribe for years. Well, I wanted to give AVG Vpn a try, it’s far cheaper than Windscribe.
However, when I connect to, let’s say, the US server which is not my physical location at all, the websites including youtube, british council, google, amazon, prime video etc. are still able to locate my physical location. This happened even after I removed all cookies and history etc. This never happened with windscribe or proton vpn. i ran a test on ipleak.net and there wasn’t any leaks. I tried another browser and the results were the same.
Why is this happening? technical or nontechnical answers are welcome.
ps: the reason I’m asking this on windscribe subreddit is I just follow this subreddit for a while and I admire the great answers. I’ll also ask this to avg support by e mail.
Your 1st mistake…Using a company that’s been very shady https://www.safetydetectives.com/blog/avast-scandal-why-we-stopped-recommending-avast-avg/
i would stop using them completely…You get what you pay for * Paying cheaper*
only chealp VPN that is good is prob Mullvad and that’s OPEN SOURCED
IMO, drop AVG like a rock. I used PIA for years with no issues. Yes AVG download speeds are high and cheap if you got the 2 year deal for AVG software deal all inclusive for 4 programs on Newegg. Antivirus, Antitrack, Tuneup and VPN. I kept the Antivirus and got rid of the rest on windows. PIA and an exclusive Linux older laptop for downloading. Issue gone. PIA runs super good deals on black Friday.
These extensions are always dangerous, and I agree with you that Avast which is the owner of AVG is a creepy company. However, rather than judging the company I’d love to know what’s the reason of that? How did Amazon detected my physical location? Lately I ran a test and my browser has a unique footprint and I forgot to mention that bluetooth is turned off. I don’t think the reason is wi-fi as I used Windscribe on wifi.
Note: AVG Vpn supports Open Vpn.
Absolutely. This is a nonsense decision of them. However, I don’t think the websites can determine my (or anyone’s) physical location just because of tracking tech as I use eff’s tiny but monster extensions and adguard, 3rd part trackers are disabled, and sure the browser is firefox.
