Hey guys, what do you think about PrivadoVPN?
I’ve been using it for about a year or so bundled with my usenet. Clearly we were beta testers because it was horrible at first. They added kill switch and some other features a few months ago and it seemed to work pretty well except it disables wifi adapter sometimes and I have to manual cycle the adapter or reboot. You can select ikev2 or openvpn protocols.
A couple weeks ago they did another complete overhaul and one of the devs must have thought it was a great idea to make all windows work like a tray menu. The first version of the overhaul opened every window off the screen and when not focused the windows auto close to tray. At first, not seeing any windows on the screen, I thought it was crashing but it was just opening windows off screen and auto hiding. For 2 weeks I had to hit alt-space-m and use arrow keys to move every window to desktop to see what the hell was going on. I emailed them right away and asked if they tested any of their updates before releasing and they responded they couldn’t duplicate the problem I was having on 3 separate PCs and wanted more info, which I ignored. Then 3 days later they released an update that fixed the window problem, but now every window opens in lower right corner and are fixed in the corner unless you alt-space-m and use arrows to move it, and they don’t save position and auto close when not focused. Very weird design decision.
The speed seems ok for my purposes, but after a couple days using the same server it will just dump you off and privado fails to reconnect, even with auto connect enabled. Oh ya, and sometimes it just keeps trying to reconnect and fails repeatedly. While it’s doing that it pops up connected/disconnected messages over the tray menu, which makes it fun trying to exit through the tray icon. Sometimes you can just connect to another server or restart privado then connect to the original server. It still feels like beta testing, but when it’s working it seems good.
I must admit, originally it sucked also but it got way better now.
Mine also came with my Usenet Provider and it first back in Nov '20, I think I barely hit 2-3mbit download to maybe 12mbit.
It seems like the past few days, I can achieve my full speed of 50mbit.
I have not really tested it much for security but it works great for WebDLs in other countries at least.
I can’t really complain, I literally pay $1.66/mo for both Usenet & Privado. I feel like I’m almost stealing the service at that price…
It’s good and cheap if you know where to get it from! the usenet deal is what I got also
If you’re getting it prepackaged with another service and it isn’t costing you anything then I guess you could use it maybe 4 geolocation type scenarios for Netflix maybe kind of sort of not really. I tried it a couple times being that it came bundled with one of my Usenet providers but I immediately realized that it did not provide anything that I was looking for in a VPN. Reliability, security, anonymity, enough servers to maybe possibly somehow compete with literally any other VPN. It didn’t provide any of those things. And then it just started blue screening my Windows computer and after trying to diagnose where the issue was with their customer service we both just came to the conclusion that it was better to part ways. I will give it to them know that they did actually try to help me figure out what the problem was but at the same time you never supposed to just let a customer walk away dissatisfied and or indifferent with regards to your service you’re providing. Just my two cents then I got for my brief moment with Privado
what usnet are you using?
What deal did you use to get Newshosting at 1.66 a month?
I used the Black Friday 2019 $20/yr deal. I think they only permit signups during the holiday season then close it back up until next year.
