Norton VPN

What are some of your guys’ opinions on this company? So far it’s told me my 6 month old PC has 20,000 files that can cause performance issues and tell me for an extra $80 or whatever it is, they’ll perform a deep clean. I find that hard to believe, just recently I’ve been experiencing performance issues such as frame drops. Still haven’t found a solution, but I’ve heard Norton isn’t something you want on your PC. With this being said, should I kick Norton to the curb?

Norton is constantly trying to upsell its other services to its customers. (Norton Utilities, VPN, etc) You can easily download CCleaner (free) to clean that junk from your computer that Norton is trying to charge you to remove.

The antivirus itself isn’t the worst, but there are plenty of better options available if you are looking to switch. Bitdefender, ESET, F-Secure, Sophos Home. Or Kaspersky if you don’t live in the US.

I’ve heard a lot about Bitdefender, is that one of the best and most common?

Yes, Bitdefender is one of the better AVs out there. It does tend to use more RAM than the other options I mentioned, but if that is not an issue for you, then Bitdefender is easy to recommend. It will definitely nag you less than Norton does.

Awesome good to know, do you think an antivirus is necessary even if I don’t surf the internet? (I use my phone for that). All I do is play 1 game sometimes 2 nothing more nothing less.

Bitdefender has a free version that’s more basic

In your case, windows defender, which is built into windows is enough. If you don’t browse the web you are very unlikely to get a virus. I might recommend one for your phone but they are generally more difficult to infect anyway.

Thank you for the helpful information, I’ll look into windows defender.

Once you remove Norton, windows defender will automatically take over. I would just make sure that Potentially unwanted app blocking is enabled, because it is often disabled by default

Perfect, will do. Thank you for your time.
