Before I start, just know that I am so hopelessly lost when it comes to electronics and computers that I KNOW this is probably a stupid question. I was looking to get some basic antivirus software as well as a VPN and I came across both of these options. I wasn’t looking to break the bank, so I downloaded the AVG free version for antivirus. I then did a little researching and found NordVPN to be agreeable. AVG also has a plan where it covers “Hackers” and Ransomware but then also comes with its own VPN… Should I have just bought the AVG paid one and not Nord or are they two entirely different products? I want to figure this out because they both have a 30 day return policy.

You’re being sucked in to marketing BS. You don’t need a third party antivirus anymore, the one that comes with Windows is the best option for most.
Regarding VPNs, why do you think you need one? VPNs are useful tools but it doesn’t magically make you safe. Regardless of the reasons, I wouldn’t use either Nord or AVG for their VPNs. Mulvad and Proton and probably the two leading VPN providers.
I have a 2020 iMac. Does that make a difference? The VPN just for a small extra layer of protection.
Personal preference I wouldn’t say it’s a complete waste with AVG you get more bang with your buck not only do you get an antivirus but it comes with a VPN as well
Ohhh… I worry not about antivirus. Have I been careless? Maybe not. But I’m less stressed. But I do not exchange information via USB or attachments - gmail already filters them.
Perhaps big guys are taking care at host level than we should do.
I work with malware, AVG is one of the earliest to bypass and i would not trust an AV provider as a VPN provider. Just stick to windows defender and pick a reputable VPN provider like Mulvad or Proton.
Yeah not happening I used the default windows defender security and I still lost all my accounts due to being hacked like I said it’s all personal preference
