I’m at work right now and I want to watch something on Netflix on my break. Unfortunately, it doesn’t matter what VPN app I download, it doesn’t want to connect. It keeps dropping the wifi. I have found some VPNs that work but they don’t work with Netflix. I know a few that do work with Netflix but aren’t working with the wifi. Assuming, those VPN’s are blocked on my works wifi. Is there anyway I can bypass this? Really want to catch up on my shows and movies on my free time at work, thanks.
Can you get a config for your VPN that uses TCP on port 443?
That might work by making it look like normal https traffic.
Couple things.
First off, some services like Netflix setup blocks for any IP address coming from a known VPN server. So, if your service is one of the common ones, it will likely be blocked.
Second, VPNs usually go straight through firewalls but in the last couple of years that hasn’t been universally true. The “Great Firewall of China” for example seems to detect VPN traffic and connections to known VPN servers. Some services offer “stealth connections”, or rather, connections to what they call “stealth servers”. These… sort of work. Sorta.
You can find some tutorials on YouTube about how to try to get Netflix to work with a VPN. If you are doing this from a non-rooted phone though, well, good luck.
Did you open a command prompt and added 'vpn-block=force override" to your VPN config?
I’m not sure how to do that. Is that possible on iOS?
I’m on an iPhone. I can’t use a command prompt.
It depends on who your provider is and how you connect. For example with Mullvad you can generate a config on their website to use that port and then use Open VPN to connect.
If you’re using an iOS app from the provider then that won’t work and you’ll be limited to the connection options they provide in app.
Never mind! Tried redownloading ExpressVPN and see if I could mess with the settings there because I knew it would work with Netflix and I was able to get it to connect and Netflix works now. It took a lot of trial and error and now work is almost over but at least I have the VPN working so that I’d be able use Netflix the next time.
I tried Mullvad with OpenVPN and Netflix pops up saying I’m using a VPN so that one doesn’t work. Is there any similar services like Mullvad?
Good stuff. Glad you got it sorted.
I’m not sure. I don’t use Netflix so that’s part I couldn’t give any advice on, I’m afraid.
