Is having multiple VPNs redundant?

Im connected to Wireguard on my router, phone uses Cloudflare in Brave browser as well as using dns.nextdns.io. I feel like my internet speeds have gotten slower, but maybe its just placebo

The more you use, the more the information packets will be broken down to allow for the tunnels.

Look up what IP frames are.

you have dns conflicts going on most likely, between cloudfare and next dns and your ISP and your VPN provider

who is your VPN provider?

generally, when using VPN on your router, its recommended to use your ISP DNS so your VPN provider just has to process it that way

too much going on doesnt do a thing to improve security

It’s slower in part because your connections are going through way more hops. You can test this out too with traceroute.

Yes, having multiple VPNs is redundant. One good VPN with a high VPNScore is usually enough to provide the security and privacy you need.

in the router, the VPN is Wireguard

should should i remove the private DNS and Brave’s cloudflare and see if that works?

are you hosting a VPN server yourself, or do you subscribe to an actual provider?

i guess im subscribed? all i did was enable wireguard under the VPN tab. do i need to do more than?

well, wiregard just provides the software/protocol for VPN providers; unless you are setup as a stand alone server using the wiregard protocol, you arent actually connected to any VPN service

do a speed test and see what it shows as your “ISP” or “provider” and see what IP address it reports you as having

is that the name of your ISP? what were your speeds?

my ISP is Spectrum. speeds average 1,130mbps up, 40mbps down

and, what is your speed when you are connected to GSL?

disconnect from GSL and see what speed you get

what make/model router are you using, and how did you install/enable wiregard on it?

those were the speeds i got from GSL. my router is ASUS GT-BE98 Pro. in the dashboard under the VPN tab, thats where i enabled wireguard

what values do you have in all the fields there?

I have the same router, and I do it through the VPN FUSION tab.

I have servers configured there, using a .cfg file I was enable to get/upload from my paid vpn provider.

I dont think what you’re trying to do actually connects to anything

If you arent paying for a vpn provider, its harder to get a router wide vpn setup to work reliably
