Is Avast really that bad?

quite literally the best antivirus tested by every third party antivirus certifier

So it’s bloatware lol

So I knw this thread is old but I’ve always used Avast as its an AV company built by hackers and there very quick and about and always upgrading their virus definitions recently i actually bought Avast secure link VPN and their browser not knowing int came with the VPN. Obviously not needing that I asked that even though td been 3 months maybe i could get a refund or another service I could use at equal price at which part he confirmed how companies do that the info is correct and asked me to enter an activation key when I did it to unlocked premium for all their apps on up to 5 devices as well as 5 family members could join and get the same. In all my Life (40 years) experience for customer service this is INSANE and 3 days later I also had a 99 dollar refund for the extra service that I called to refund originally. I have never been treated so well by a company without having to bitch moan and threaten. ~Is Avast Really that Bad?~ I feel they are what all companies should strive to be. So honestly in no way is this company Bad they’re a shining example of what corporations should strive to be these days.

My biggest issue are the permanent pop-up-ads for their other products, and that it more often than not marks a file as bad (mostly as malware) even though it supposedly isn’t.

Now the question is, is avast wrong, or are other programs wrong?
And I’m just writing with someone from their support, since you can send files to their Lab for a proper check-up,however, that person proofs to be highly incompetent in answering my questions. Not sure if it’s due to a language-barrier, or that that person just really has 0 clue.

If anyone cares, my question was, if I would get any information if the files I sent to the lab are really a false alarm, or not. And how long it usually takes to know that. Writing with them for half an hour or hour and got more answers to questions I didn’t ask than answers to the ones I did.

I dislike how avast has all their products separated from one another… bought avast premium security and antitracking and clean up… but get spam from avast to buy ther products… problem i have is the pop ups interfere with what i am doing online. be it in a middle of an intense game or other. after this sub runs out i will not be renewing… more likely i will uninstalll and go with something else before the sub expires… never getting this product again

Avast screwed with the dailey operations of my computer more then any virus. It completly over reaches and blocks download, instalations and even everyday trusted website if its on its bad side. It has nuked two of my usb drives trying to protect me and constantly having the locked up so I cant remove them currpting the drives making them unusable. Even if you turn off fire wall and browser protection. That does nothing they are still running and will control what you can do. even apps like steam get blocked from updating. Mind you this is all premium I paid for an app that takes control of and monitors everthing you do wether its off or on. not good goona ask for a refund.

130% increase in price without notification and auto charged! I was shocked to discover I had been charged $85 on auto renew after paying $35 last year. And the process of trying to get help with this was so long! They give you a cancellation process, but that takes you into a chat (your only choice) which is incredibly slow and unhelpful, but if you leave the chat, you are back at the beginning of the refund process. A loop that will never let you cancel. Incredibly unprofessional and time consuming. Definitely find another program!

I can tell you as a business IT admin, our company loves avast business. It is very strong protection, doesn’t slow down computers, and is very powerful to be configured exactly how you want through their Business Hub web portal. We’ve also found their chat and phone support for business to be really really good compared to any other vendor. No matter what question I throw at them, they immediately know how to fix the problem and give me easy steps right away to get it done. We’ve yet to run into one single thing they can’t do and we have a fairly complex network environment with industrial machines that need custom firewall rules etc…

avast saying that i have a virus but i just did MRT in task manager and it said im fine what should i do? like im using free avast and i dont know if i should believe avast

Windows defender wont let me use the free trial unless is have a legit debit card i used a prepaid with no money to get the free trial for avast one and it works great after my free trials done i will find another one

yes. spams with notifications. use hitman, or malwarebytes. malwarebytes has free I believe

If you are doing a free trial as a bridge to buying other software, DON’T

They are almost impossible to contact. You do need the “1” in order for the phone number to work.

Received a case number via their automated help system. Never heard back.

I remember Sen. Elizabeth Warren advocating for consumers on the issue of there being same number of clicks to enroll in a subscriptions as to disenroll. This is one of those cases. Loop de loop to NOWHERE.

It is for me that is why I deleted it in 2022. It took up so much of my computer resources and dramatically slowed down my web browser performance. I kept thinking in that time it was Google lol. Got to say I was shocked when I found out it was Avast. I switched to Kaspersky and never had any computer problems since but now I had to hard reset and found out that Kaspersky expired for US use. I hate that so much because now I cannot find a good free antivirus software (windows defender is in my computer but I want to watch anime for free so now I’m mad).

I just installed this, and after it took an oddly long time to install, I realized it was also installing a browser I never asked for. Then, upon first scan, it claimed I had several issues but was really trying to sell me on more services. I immediately removed it from my computer, and felt the sort of gross that comes with a high-pressure salesman having made an attempt at you.

If you’ve got to be that forceful, maybe your product is bad. Good products sell themselves.

I just ended my subscription from AVAST… when I bought it I thought I would be fully protected but suddenly I realised I had to buy several add ons just to be as protected as I wanted to be but still it wasn’t enough… one of the reasons I bought it was to get rid of popups but oh I was wrong… can you understand that the damn app was popping up every now and then to convince to buy adds to get fully protection… I had enough… so I started a chat in their support to end it and to get a refund from the latest withdrawal of money they did last Sunday… I was asked several times if I wanted to renew my subscription and not just that… they even suggested me to get additional addons… wtf!!! Finally I asked if it was an AI I was chatting with since my words didn’t come thru but it wast… well, according to the support she was human… so yea… AVAST sux dead dix…

Yes, and you don’t need it anyway.

I love seeing all the “windows does it better “ bs when I personally haven’t had a windows install in 2 decades and I know people who never have.

I love the “DeFenDeR iS BeTtEr!” repeat comments. I wouldn’t trust it unless it was managed by M365 and even then I would still be paranoid about going into grey areas on the web. Most people who brag up Defender never had to clean up messes it caused because people relied on it too much.

Avast use to be one of the best antivirus programs until they bought / merged with AVG. Then it turned to crap real fast.

Things that seperated Avast from other antivirus programs (like Norton, AVG, McAfee) was that you could just do a definitions auto-update, without having to completely reinstall the program or having to restart your computer every update, it also had a automatic driver updater, and had little to no advertisements or popups. It also had easy to customize scan setting, like quick scan that on scanned RAM and your registry, full scan that scanned everything, etc… and you could turn off certain modules of protections. In general even with a full scan it was way faster than most other antiviruses. Also had an amazing simple and intuitive UI.

Once they merged with AVG, Avast became an absolute shit show with the number of advertisements and pop ups. Constantly asks you install its VPN / Secure browser, gives you a bunch of broken registry / junk file cleaner advertisements, etc… whenever you restart your computer or periodically every few days. They changed the UI to be basically a useless AVG clone with a Avast skin. Not to mention the amount of false positives increased a ton. There are a lot of times where Avast just outright blocks certain websites for no real reason without popping up a notification or indicator that it was the one blocked the website. The automatic driver updater doesn’t work anymore (and generally not needed anymore since most drivers auto update nowadays anyways).

While Avast certainly has it problems I still prefer it over other antiviruses. For instance I absolutely hate Window Defender UI or rather lack of UI. Windows Defender scans are slow, and the last time I used it just auto scans at the most inconvenient times. If I recall correctly it constantly nags you to do a scan if you disable auto scanning. Isn’t as easy as Avast to blacklist or whitelist things. Windows Defender sometimes quartines stuff and just outright refuses to release it / unblock stuff. Windows Defender doesn’t do as good of a job at blocking bad scripts / malware from some free (anime / Asian soap operas) online streaming websites.

Xlnt reminder. Also, I’ve just gone through the incredibly angering process of getting Avast to cancel my subscription and refund (as promised) the full amount if requested in 30 days. It should take about 2-3 minutes max. It took nearly an hour. And I’m supposed to TRUST this company? No way in hell.
