I uninstalled my free version of AVAST over 1 year ago, and now I found that 3 processes are still running the background, including their VPN (which is a paid service)?

I just found that “Avast Cleanup”, “Avast Driver Updater” and “Avast SecureLine VPN” have been running in the background by default on my Win10 PC.

I uninstalled Avast over 1 year ago. What the hell is this??

I am mostly spooked by the VPN tbh. I use expressVPN on this PC, does that mean that my traffic has also been redirected to Avast’s servers this whole time?? I don’t understand it. I looks like their VPN is a paid service, but I never paid for Avast, I was using their free program like most people.

Any advice on what to do?

Go to control panel and see if you see them in Add and Remove Programs. If not get the Avast uninstaller.

For a dang year? Wow.

Did you uninstall Avast with Control Panel? Do the 3 intrusive programs appear there? That’s where I would head first.

Simply go to control panel, program settings, and add or remove programs and delete everything “Avast”

Use their uninstallation tool to get rid of the remaining crap it leaves on your machine

Their VPN is installed because they have a free plan that you can use. If you haven’t been using it then your traffic was NOT being redirected to Avast. Avast is known for installing bullshit software like “cleanup” and “driver updater” that do more harm than good.

Go to “add or remove programs” and start removing every Avast thing you see.

It worked! Thank you guys so much for all the help!

There is nothing for Avast in control panel and programs, etc… I ended up manually deleting those 3 folders for those 3 processes that were located in C:/Program Files/Avast.

Still it is super annoying. I did uninstall Avast using the proper uninstaller when I did that a year ago. Why would these be left there working in the background? Avast is essentially a malware at this point.
