Free VPN's for Stremio?

If anyone has any suggestions, please help.

No.

A) A VPN is sub-optimal for Stremio because the redirection of your traffic through the VPN’s gateway server will reduce your effective bandwidth. While it may only be a slight reduction, it will result in even more buffering when trying to stream torrents.

B) If you’re wanting a VPN to protect your privacy, you don’t want to use a free VPN. Any free VPN that doesn’t have some very severe limitations (that would prevent you from using it for Stremio) is likely a honeypot, and a liability to your security.

Use Real-Debrid or any other debrid service instead. They’re not free, but very inexpensive. And they protect your privacy when using Stremio better than a VPN while providing a much better streaming experience.

Use Real-Debrid, you get the fastest no buffered stream and best of all you don’t need a VPN as they are cached streams from their servers. Best of both worlds

You don’t need a VPN when using RD but if you really want to use one try proton. The free tier of proton is unlimited but speeds aren’t great, you may have to scale back your streaming from 4K to 1080p, maybe even 720p.

Windscribe VPN free account gives you 10gb monthly (you can get 5gb bonus doing some tasks) and 10 countries. It’s free and works with torrent. If you’re on a casual torrenting it should do the job.

I used RD with a VPN. RD terms does say they can give out ur info (probably as safety measure for them if they get busted). So better to be safe than sorry.

Proton free doesn’t work with torrents.

The main focus of your post should be directly related to Stremio. Help for other software or issues, including content acquisition, should be directed to their own respective subreddits.

It is utterly pointless to use a VPN with RD. They have your information on file, they don’t need your IP address. Not like they would go down hardest on the users if it came down to that anyways.

Not pointless at all. If they got busted they have all ur info including ur internet provider and that can come to bite you back in the ass if authorities get that information. VPN is always good as a second source of security.

Your payment info being compromised nullified any steps you ever took to conceal your identity with a VPN, unless you’re paying for it in crypto. The only point is (a flawed) peace of mind, it is totally unnecessary to use one.

I butted heads with mr peppers over the same subject. He thinks the industry will never track his traffic without a VPN. He is for a rude awakening some day soon.

It is pointless, because debrid services aren’t illegal. There’s no “getting busted”. They’re considered a service provider, and therefore granted certain protections under various international copyright laws as long as they cooperate with authorities and respond to content takedown requests. Using a debrid service doesn’t constitute illegal copyright infringement, since users are at no point distributing content, only consuming content distributed by others. So authorities have no reason to go after debrid service users. They just send a takedown request to have specific files removed from the debrid service’s cache (which is likely just re-cached soon afterward).

There’s legally no difference between streaming a copyrighted movie from a debrid service and watching a copyrighted movie on YouTube that someone uploaded without permission. It’s equally pointless to use a VPN to protect yourself in either situation, since there’s no threat you need to protect yourself from. You’re not doing anything illegal. Using a VPN in these situations only introduces extra costs and complications, including reducing your effective bandwidth.

This is a big reason why so many people say that using a debrid service is safer that using a VPN – using a VPN conceals your illegal activities, while using a debrid services means you’re not doing anything illegal in the first place. AND you’re only connecting to a single server over an encrypted connection instead of hundreds of peers in a swarm. Not even your ISP can see what data is passing between you and the debrid service, so even if you were doing something illegal when using a debrid service – which you aren’t – copyright enforcement agencies have no way of knowing what you’re doing.

There are plenty of valid reasons to use a VPN, but trying to hide your activity when using a debrid service isn’t one of them. Recommending the use of technologies without actually understanding them only makes people less safe, not more.

Can’t you use, say, privacy.com to create a virtual credit card number with a made up name and address to pay for RD?
