Does VPN hide my search history?

I’m currently living at my sisters place and renting so we share wifi but I don’t really want them seeing what I’m doing online and I’d like some privacy.

Would a VPN hide my history if they were to search for it? Wasn’t sure if it had me completely off the net or not.

It would hide your network traffic. If someone was keeping tabs on the home router all they would see is you communicating with the VPN server. A VPN would prevent them from seeing what sites you are actively visiting.

Chances are that nobody in your house is monitoring that anyway. Most home routers don’t keep web traffic logs (very little disk space) unless they’re specifically running some kind of parental filtering/monitoring feature or a local DNS proxy like Adguard, and even then, the logs are typically short term (again, very little disk space for logs on a typical cheap home router).

Search history ->Tracks → Logs → Backup → No

Yes, assuming they only have router logs. It won’t stop them snooping your device physically so make sure you have a new pin set and the screen auto lock after a minute.

Strictly speaking even without a VPN they will only see you’re opening, say, google then pornhub, so they won’t know what exact queries you’re looking.

No it won’t hide anything on your device, you need to put extra things in place for that and even then you carnt hide everything. Big bro is watching you mwah haha.
