Hi I dont know if I can ask this here but I kept getting emails from a adult website so I decided to press forgot password and see if the account was active so I could shut it down, when I got in I noticed it wasn’t active but it was created 3 years ago from a Samsung android device, I’ve ever only owned iPhone so in the activity log of that website it showed my phone as “safari iOS” my question is and I’m asking because I used to visit those sites around the same time as the account was created while using a vpn, does vpn make it so when that account was created it listed the device as a Samsung/android instead of an iphone? Sorry if that sounded confusing I don’t know anything about vpns, (the point of me asking this is to make sure I didn’t accidentally create a account on that website using my google account because I would never create an account on those websites)
No. Only your IP address. The device information the sites use is your user agent. this is not something a VPN will change.
Is there anything that can change device names?
Yes and no. On mobile it’s not that easy to do.
On PC, you can get extensions to do it in most browsers that are based on chrome or Firefox.
I’m not too sure about safari as I haven’t used it in ~10 years, but there might be a way to set it in the app? It definitely wouldn’t be something you do by accident if you did.
True I just keep thinking my Google accounts been hacked but nothings happened for 3 years so I assume it’s nothing
