Does anybody know how to get the Mac GlobalProtect client to update?

I have a Mac 10.15.7 which has been stuck in the GlobalProtect 5.0.9-15 update for months.

It offers to perform the update, I accept and click install, the notification then disappears.

Soon a callout box appears telling me the update is in progress and I will be notified again when it is finished.

That is as far as it gets. The update process never completes.

They should long in to the portal and Download the file. . Then after that you can run the file and choose to uninstall . Then run the file again to install
It will ask for the portal.

I have this happening on my windows machines, 6 hours later I get kicked off the VPN from the update.

I have solved the problem: You need to log onto the same workplace portal the software was first downloaded from. The address should be discoverable by finding out the URL your global connect client is connecting to. Once discovered you must first disable Global Protect as it blocks browser access to their own portal, for some reason. Once disabled, go to the portal at the address discovered, and download and install the software.

Do you work in IT, or have your school/company installed the software for you?

Whenever you attempt to download and it doesn’t give you another box stating it’s downloaded successfully, have you attempted to open the client>about>Check for updates? Sometimes it doesn’t show the box again and you’ll have to manually check for an update and it’ll say it’s done downloading and ask if you’d like to install now

OK, how do I do that?

Are you sure this is what you mean? It is an either/or question but both are true:

I am an IT professional *and* I installed the software myself, *but* the install was mandated by *somebody else’s employer* for *somebody else’s* use.

I am IT literate (programmer) but not experienced in setting up this type of security. It is part a secure system mandated by a friend’s employer. I am attempting to perform the update for them on their home computer.

Portal is the address that the VPN connects to? How did you first install the agent? Go to vpn.company.xyz login and download the agent? Or did they supply an installer for you.

Yes my meaning was correct.

I wanted to understand if you were are a user requesting support or an IT pro looking for some assistance. In the case where a user is having an issue I would direct them to speak to their IT depts help desk.

Seeing that your an IT pro I’ll assume you have admin access on your machine. If you do, why don’t you just uninstall the client and then download a fresh copy from the portal? If that doesn’t work I’d reach out to the company’s IT dept that manages the PAs and let them know about the issue. They maybe able to provide some support.

I have read through the email exchange which took place when I first installed the VPN and unfortunately that same URL from then appears no longer to work.

I have since sent an email to their IT department asking for a new URL.

I don’t download a fresh copy because I don’t have the URL. The URL from the first install appears no longer to work. I have since emailed their IT department asking for an updated URL.

Do you know of anything I can do to sidestep waiting for their email?

The portal that you download from is generally the same as the portal that you see in the GlobalProtect client. It could be an IP address or FQDN. just enter that in your browser to get to the landing page, then enter your VPN credentials to get to the download page.

Click on the GlobalProtect icon. At the bottom you will see Portal and then either an IP address or FQDN. Enter that into a browser.
