Randomly my browser will open up a copy of another link by going to a website such as
https://r.linksprf.com/v1/redirect?type=linkId&id=fd2d3c649b184f3dbac77568486afa25&api\_key=8d1c3d5cd712f43cf29eb30697f4ef12&site\_id=d9e6b69843b3476194b2e987f5ed9923&dch=feed&ad\_t=advertiser&yk\_tag=149
They all have the prefix r.linksprf.com and I tried googling this but there are no results.
I’ve scanned my computer with avast and malwarebytes but they found nothing.
Does anyone have any idea why this is happening? My best guess is an extension but i don’t know which one.
EDIT: I removed a bunch of extensions and from the comment section, it seems like auto quality for YouTube is the extension causing this.

i have a similar issue. the link actually redirects to online retailers (in my case flipkart, an indian ecommerce website) and the link activates the affiliate cookie of whoever has injected the code in many of the coupon code and price comparison chrome extensions.
chrome extensions *shakes fist*
Am seeing the same thing on my PC. By any chance do you have the Rakuten extension installed? I think that might be the tracking domain for Rakuten.
Same thing here. Did you find out what was the problem? This is extremely annoying. --’
Do you have the “Auto Quality For YouTube” extension installed by any chance?
oh man, i’ve been suffering this same problem for a month now, idk what happen to my chrome, try to scan with windowsdefender and also malwarebytes but nothing appear. I also search on google but nothing to be found
Any updates on this? I don’t have much extensions on my browser, so I wonder what’s the problem.
I’ve been noticing this a lot and wondering WTF was happening. Thought maybe it was my browser itself. Just removed the Auto Quality extension to see if I get any changes so I’ll update in a day or two (it was happening every single day so that should be enough time to test).
Thank you for this!
I’ve been seeing this, on LInux, very specifically with the MS Teams PWA - and it always redirects to an MS advertising page, too.
I don’t really have many extensions and most are trusted well enough (keepass, bitwarden, …) - but I’m pretty sure it always comes out of teams as the page title contains the teams tab that launched it…
Started with the new teams client, and I haven’t found a good way to block it yet.
I had the same issue, with redirects including “linksprf” and “linkbucks” – when I open a website, often trustworthy online shopping sites, a new copy of the tab opens up, redirecting from one of those adware sites.
My issue was caused by Chrome extension “Super Dark Mode.” I was checking through my extensions one by one, and saw in the recent reviews for Super Dark Mode, that other people are reporting the same issue.
Oh, wow it’s been happening to me in the past few weeks out of nowhere, and I’m glad I stumbled on this post as I also had the same extension installed.
Much thanks!
BTW Dark Reader is the best dark themed browser toggle I’ve tried — I’ve tried about 5, it’s easy and powerful.
It was honey for me.
Thanks u/Jamesrulez for this post.
I don’t but I did have honey installed. I’ve removed that for now to see if that stops it.
Yea I removed a bunch of extensions and I think it was honey that was doing it.
I did and I removed that too. Was it compromised?
Not to necro the thread, but this appears to have been the culprit for me as well. Thanks for the suggestion!
If you have the “Auto Quality for YouTube” extension, uninstall it. It’s definitely the cause of this behaviour and other unwanted side effects.
Yes I edited the main post
