Chrome bypassing vpn

i saw my device history in google and it shows my ip address and not that of a VPN. I am using chrome and it seems to bypass the vpn ip. … has anybody else observed this ?

i am also using pc and not mobile

If there is one thing I am sure about, this is that Google has no super control/power over your computer. There is no way it can bypass the routing table of your system. If Chrome would give itself “privileges”, it could do nothing against an upstream router that routes all the trafic over a VPN.

This is probably a bad configuration of your VPN client, Chrome may start in the background before your VPN client.

Another way, but not sure about the truthiness of this, but I’ve read that Chrome may proceed with WiFi scanning, and if you have an Android phone connected to your Google account but not connected to your VPN, the link between your real IP and your Chrome instance and the computer could be easily detected.

Its google chome, It’s work as intendend.

Config issue with your VPN or OS. Chrome can’t bypass the system routing table.

Either that, or you haven’t prevented Chrome from running on startup, and it’s starting before your VPN is.

Are you signed in in Google Chrome?

if apps succeed in establishing tcp sockets before VPN it could remain connected later. don’t know if it is the case for you but it could be a possibility.

OP, judging by your comments, you’re running the VPN as a program on your computer. VPNs run this way typically create another network adapter and route all traffic through that. However, your normal adapter is still connected and if a program specifically accesses that adapter, it will see your real IP. I wouldn’t put it past Chrome to internally probe all adapters and send that info back to Goolag.

Perhaps a WebRTC leak?

Spy back on Chrome:

Go here, and create a log, browse a bit:

chrome://net-export/

Then use this extension to view the log:

sounds like you’re split tunneling

Yeessss. I thought of both possibilities. But my phone is also using VPN. And not connected to same google account.
Only likely answer is that VPN client started later. I tried looking to chrome process to kill it but then stopped.

Instead of Firefox, I suggest people use Waterfox, which is a current version of Firefox with some of the anti-user parts of Firefox fixed.

I found links in your comment that were not hyperlinked:

I did the honors for you.

I mean, you’re using Chrome and you’re apparently signed in as well (if I understand you correctly), so there’s some easy fixes for that.

I don’t know what system you are on, but you should be able to stop chrome from automatically starting at boot, so that the VPN is definitely established first (or give it a startup delay). you could also set up a test to check that your VPN is actually doing what its supposed to if you have another device at hand. because if it is actually misconfigured or Not working properly, you may as well scrap it altogether

Something maybe wrong with Chrome, and its better to just leave it and use firefox

Yes you can search about what’s wrong and spend you time on that, but why should you?

If a software to spy on you goes bonks and malfunctions and leaks your private details, it’s better to just stop using it. Maybe try another browser.
