My dad wants to travel to mainland China this summer, but the trip falls during my first enrollment pass. I know Google etc is blocked there but can you still log into MyUCLA to sign up for classes (without a VPN)?

Get Astrill vpn. It is not the fastest but the most stable vpn there. You can use everything like google with it. From what remember, I think you can use myucla and bruinlearn without vpn. At least last summer I also signed up for classes in China with a laptop that doesn’t have any vpn. But I would definitely recommend you still get a vpn cause you need it for so many website. Also as a side note, if you have a us phone provider like AT&T and use data roaming there, I think while on cellular, you can access these us websites. But when on wifi or if you get a Chinese e sim, u can’t. Have fun in China, let me know if you have any more questions abt travel and stuff!
UCLA also has its own vpn available to students iirc.

Yes, I’ve used it in Shanghai with no problems. If you run into issues, use the campus VPN.
