AVG is a scam

Just warning yall, AVG holds onto your card info. I canceled my subscription about 2-3 years ago…and they charged me $80 out of the blue. And when I called for a refund they kept insisting on a partial refund to keep my “protection” and pay the other half at a later date…had to argue for 10 minutes that I didnt have the money and wanted a full refund. Will take a week to get it sadly.

But the worst part was, my boyfriend was charged about 5 hours after me for $104. He didnt have a subscription either. It was also about 3 years ago when he tried it.
Two random expensive charges in one day? To two people in close proximity. A bit odd…sounds like a scam to me. He chatted with them online and same deal, trying to get him to keep it and pay partial. They even went to the extent of asking “Is there anyone else in your household that would like to take over payment?”… Seriously? Did they really just ask that? They must be hurting for money to go that far. Basically stealing peoples money.

They dont actually protect you and they want you to buy multiple protection services. Want to fix one thing that will be $80 a year, then to fix another thing add $30 more a year ontop of the $80 already, etc… So bottom line they just want money, dont give them anything. Stay away from AVG antivirus. They are a money grubbing scam. Malware pretty much.

I find that slightly hard to believe they’d just randomly decide to charge you out of the blue.

Hello,

It looks like AVG has a knowledgebase article answering billing questions: Purchase and Billing | AVG

Perhaps start by reviewing the Refund section?

Regards,

Aryeh Goretsky

If you definitely cancelled the sub, and not just uninstalled the program, then I’d suggest they have a billing issue rather than the multi-billion dollar company is willing to get sued over $80. If you haven’t already, I’d raise the possibility of that to them in a complaint.

As for the billing department being shit, yea, that’s billing departments as whole, nothing unique to AVG.

I’ve never used this company, nor ever heard of them. Today was charged 300 bucks by then in 3 100 dollar payments, why is this company allowed to exist?

AVG has been billing me for years (9) after I cancelled. My bank blocked them a couple of years ago but this time they made it look like it was billed via Paypal. Paypal has no record of it. Yesterday I was in a chat with the bank’s fraud division when the two browser windows I had open suddenly closed. So, I called the bank and while filing the complaint the call was dropped and a recording came on saying the number I was calling had “call restrictions” and couldn’t accept my call. Our calls are dropped a lot, but not I’m getting paranoid.

Did a search for AVG on my hard drive -found a huge variety of extensions- but have been blocked from deleting several. Yay. Any suggestions how to proceed from here would be most appreciated.

If you are on this thread, it’s because this Russian company operating in the US scammed you. Please report them to the federal trade transmission. It’s not hard. If enough people do this we can get them out of our country. They have been scamming since 2016

I was looking for a free antivirus software (like I’m sure most other people that got it have), when I got AVG, I decided to come here to make sure they’re good, since they immediately started asking for money after the false advertisement of it being free. I activated the 60-day free trial of the pro features using paypal, but after seeing all these comments about it, definitely cancelled the sub. they say I can still use all the features for 2 months, after that I’ll delete it and look for a different one.

I can concur, AVG are totally a scam operation. UNINSTALL THEM ASAP!! I’m not kidding… they are charging multiple bank accounts in my household for cover when 2 of the peope are over 80 and do not even own computers.

They somehow have their bank details, and it’s impossible to unsubscribe or even remove the bank details. If you do any online banking whilst you have AVG Free installed, then you’ve invited them into your lives and bank accounts. I promise you, this is not a false information message I’m spreading, this is a MASSIVE warning to everyone who has AVG Free… I’ve no idea how to stop them at this point, short of having everyone in the house close their bank accounts and move to a different bank completely.

This is a nightmare of the highest proportions.

I can confirm this happening to me every year past few years 114$ Australian dollars maybe avg data base got hacked by dirty Indians I’m taking this information to my big bank tomorrow

I just found out today they were scamming my bank every three months and I didn’t know it since 1922 according to PayPal… and I don’t use it never liked it they keep wanting you to buy more and more every time they charged me $106.99 today $85.62 in February… what for I haven’t a clue…

I regrettably authorized a remote session with AVG’s Antivirus tech support to fix an issue with my account only to realize that he was accessing my personal information on an unauthorized ghost session invincible to me. I immediately terminated the remote session when I realized what was going on and proceeded to change all of the passwords in my browser password manager. However, I realized at that point, that the tech already got hold of the data on my browser password manager and personal documents stored locally on my PC. He then proceeded to change passwords to the accounts he could gain access to. I managed to recover most of the accounts by changing the passwords to stronger unique forms and added 2FA with my phone and also made sure to delete any odd devices present in accounts that had a device list (Just in-case you were wondering, yes there was an odd device on my Amazon account).

He is still trying to change my iCloud password till this day, and I know this because I often get notifications from Apple asking if I want to approve a password change on one of my devices. It is a shame that a company you entrust to protect you turns out to be the devil himself. I don’t know how many other victims out there are dying in silence or simply in oblivion on what is going on. On the other hand, I refuse to remain silent to help save other potential victims. The ball is in your court. DO NOT USE ANY AVG PRODUCTS EVER!!!

Yes, DO NOT subscribe to any AVG services if you don’t want to get robbed every year. Since windows defender is the best antivirus now the rest of the companies are straight up scamming people

I just had that happen to me today, argued with the lady for 10 minutes to get her to give me a damn refund for a subscription I never even paid for. They took $118 from my account, and she kept trying to haggle me to take a 50-75% refund and keep the subscription which I didn’t even have. She said she processed the refund, now I’m waiting 7 days to see it come back. Hopefully it does

They are absolutely a scam.

It’s been over a month and I’m still waiting for my money that they randomly took. Guaranteed me a refund and now are “processing” if but keep having “technical issues” processing it.

Who can I comlkain to about this?

It might be time ti start a new thread but I just got a renewal notice for “10” devices (fair enough), for the expected (annual amount) of AUD115.99 (Why not 116?) but they are billing this “Monthly”? I’m not keeping it, I don’t think anyone else will either.

AVG Internet Security (Multi-Device) A$ 115.99

Number of devices: 10 Devices

Subscription billed monthly until canceled.

Definitely a scam. Been getting charged $50-80 multiple times per month. I don’t even have a AVG account so wtf???

AVG gave a free trial to my wife that she cancelled. Now after 2 cancellations they have charged her card a 3rd time. Unfortunately the unauthorized transaction is with a Chime card and Chime isn’t helping open a fraud dispute or issue a credit. We’re now stuck in California visiting family, it’s my birthday, and she has work tomorrow. So instead of putting that $43 into our gas tank we don’t have any access to funds and it’s Sunday so reaching someone who can fix this won’t happen. As far as I’m concerned AVG is a fraudulent company that scams its users as soon as anyone gives them card information. Do not sign up for AVG, do not accept a “free” trial and do not give them any bank or credit card information.

I have bought an annual subscription for AVG VPN, but after 30 days nearly all locations stopped working. I told them about this issue and they said it is my country who doesn’t allow use of VPN but that is nonsense because I can definitely use any other VPN. Later I found out that I can use only two locations. I told them about that. They asked me “Which locations work?” When I told them the working locations, they stopped working as well. I asked for a refund but they told me that 30 days is done so they can’t refund my money. I said I can’t use the service, it is not just a random request to refund. They they said they have refunded but I never got the money. They surely are scammers.

My free AVG trial recently ended, and since, out of nowhere, I have six trackers and three viruses. I did troubleshooting and check for malware, and there’s nothing there. Nothing at all. I visit the same websites, rarely going to new ones, and only download files on trusted websites. I don’t click on sketchy links or anything, so I don’t know what AVG is going on about, but they are trying to get me to spend money into them.
