Avast subscription finally cancelled after 10 Years

I have two surface laptops on Windows 11, two iPhones (of which one is a spare) on IOS 18.0.1 (latest available version in UK) and an old iPad mini 4 on IpadOS 15.8.3.

Well, after 10 years of using and paying for Avast software I finally cancelled my subscription. The latest version that I used was ‘Ultimate’, comprising Premium Security, SecureLine VPN, Anti-Track and maybe also Cleanup Premium (not actually used).

The cancellation process was very straightforward - just log in and turn off autorenewal.

The reason: the continual nagging pointless attempted upsells just got too much. Does Avast have any idea just how annoying this is for their customers??

I would not mind an occasional reminder of the potential to upgrade, perhaps once every 3 or 6 months, but in general if I pay for software I expect it to just be in the background getting on with its job, while I get on with mine.

For VPN purposes, am going to give NordVPN a try. Seems to have some other security-oriented functionality bundled in.

Agreed. I just spent an hour trying to help a friend with her Avast Ultimate as it was popping up at least five windows at startup telling her she needed to do this or that (driver updates etc.) and it’s making her mad. I used to advise people to use Avast, but this is crazy. How in the world do you stop all those popups? Do we have to uninstall and go with another program?

Unfortunately I don’t know.

Do we have to uninstall and go with another program?

That was my solution. So far, a combination of MS Defender and Nord VPN (on a one-month trial subscription, not entirely silent but quiet enough for me) seems to be doing the job OK.
